The sun was shining through her window, casting a warm glow across the room. The gentle breeze blowing away the thin, white curtains. She was late and she knew it.
Lacey jumped out of bed, her hearting racing with a hint of excitement and nervousness. Today was something special. Today she was meeting Zyon at the park. 4 PM?! WHAT TIME DID I SLEEP LAST NIGHT?!
She hurried up and got dressed. She put a pair of light blue ripped jeans and a floral blouse, hoping it would be comfortable and cute. She ran her fimgers through her tangled hair, trying to smooth it down.
She grabbed a hair brush and swiftly ran it through her hair, tying it into a long, loose braid. Next, she splashed her face with water and patted it down with a towel, trying to wake herself up fully. Then, she applied a touch of lip gloss and a hint of a blush, just enough to give her a natural look.
She looked for hee favourite pair of sneakers. Would Zyon notice her effort? Would their time be as wonderful as she had hoped? She threw on her shoes, trying to push away the butterflies that had taken up residence in her stomach.
Finally, she grabbed her bag, making sure she had everything she needed - her phone, some snacks and a book she and Zyon had been reading together. She wanted everything to be perfect. She took one last look in the mirror and smiled.
"Today is going to be amazing." She whispered to herself.
Lacey's twin brother, Laken came out of his room, "Where are you going?" He asked.
"I'm meeting someone at the park. I'll be back soon." She replied in a hurried voice.
She's weird. Laken thought to himself.
As she ran down the stairs, she shouted out a goodbye to her mom, who was busy in the kitchen. "Be back home by 8:00."
"I will!"

She could see Zyon sitting on the bench under their favourite tree. She waved at her, and she waved back. Her heart raced faster as she approached, Lacey's smile brightnened. Lacey's nerves melting away, replaced by a sense of calm and happiness. Today was going to be perfect.
They spent the evening exploring the park, talking and laughing as they walked along the winding paths. They shared stories, discovered hidden corners, and even fed the ducks at the pond. Lacey felt a deep connection with Zyon, stronger than ever before. As the sun began to set, casting a golden hue over the skies, they found themselves sitting on a blanket under their favorite tree. The air was warm and filled with the scent of grass and blooming flowers.
They sat close, shoulders touching, as they talked about their dreams and future plans. Zyon turned to Lacey, her eyes soft and full of affection. She reached out, gently brushing a strand of hair from Lacey’s face. “Lacey, there’s something I’ve been wanting to do,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Lacey’s heart skipped a beat. She knew what was coming, and the anticipation made her breath catch in her throat. She looked into Zyon’s eyes, her own filled with a mix of excitement and anxiety. Zyon leaned in slowly, her eyes closing as she moved closer. Lacey could feel her pulse quicken, her hands trembling slightly. Just as their lips were about to touch, Zyon pulled back, her face flushed with sudden nervousness.“I’m sorry, Lacey,” she said, her voice shaky. “I… I don’t want to mess this up.”
Lacey’s eyes widened in surprise, then softened with understanding. She reached out, taking Zyon’s hand in hers. “Zyon, it’s okay. We don’t have to rush anything,” she reassured her. “I’m here with you, no matter what.” Zyon smiled, her tension easing a little at Lacey’s words. “Thank you,” she murmured.
They sat together in comfortable silence, watching the sunset paint the sky in shades of pink and orange. Although their first kiss hadn’t happened yet, Lacey knew that when the moment was right, it would be perfect. And in that moment, sitting beside Zyon, she felt more connected to her than ever before.
