"O you who believe! Follow not the footsteps of Shaitân (Satan). And whosoever follows the footsteps of Shaitân (Satan), then, verily he commands Al-Fahshâ' [i.e. to commit indecency (illegal sexual intercourse)], and Al-Munkar [disbelief and polytheism (i.e. to do evil and wicked deeds; and to speak or to do what is forbidden in Islâm)]. And had it not been for the Grace of Allâh and His Mercy on you, not one of you would ever have been pure from sins. But Allâh purifies (guides to Islâm) whom He wills, and Allâh is All-Hearer, All-Knower." – Surah An-Nur, Ayah 21
We have been created and placed on this Earth for a purpose – to worship Allah alone without associating any partners with Him (سبحانه وتعالى). Shaytan has been created as our enemy, the one who and his army would strive till the day of judgement to drag us down to Jahannam with them. The test of the Dunya is to distinguish the dwellers of Jannah and the prisoners of Jahannam – to see who fulfils their purpose with excellence and who is distracted and led astray from the Straight Path because they followed the footsteps of Shaytan.
Unfortunately, Shaytan has different tactics that he uses on us to stray us away from the Straight Path, and we fall for them unknowingly or knowingly, but we do. He beautifies the sins, makes their gravity look smaller, and gives you false hope by making you believe that you're headed to Jannah automatically. But Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) says:
"Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: "We believe," and will not be tested?" – Surat-ul 'Ankabut, Ayah 2
So, the life of this Dunya is our test. Will we follow the commands of our Creator through the Quran and the last Prophet, Muhammad (ﷺ)? Or will we follow in the footsteps of our enemy, Shaytan, and be dragged down to hell? It is our choice to make.
Because at the end of the day, where else would our enemy lead us, if not to our doom?
