#15. wall rose incident

Year 850

—Continuation of Day 12—

At Wall Rose, Hoshino had decided to sit with Christa, making Ymir suspicious of her. It was indeed a rare sight for Hoshino to interact with them since they weren't really close since the training corps years, only Shallie was able to get along with everyone.

"It's rare for you to come and talk to us, Hoshino. Tell me, what do you need?" Ymir asked Hoshino with an aggressive look after she came and sat with them in the dining area "Or don't tell me you and your boyfriend broke up?" She then asked the black haired girl. Of course she had an idea of what was happening between Bertholdt and Hoshino but still she couldn't jump into conclusions without any proof.

Christa then pushed Ymir out of the girl's sight, she had a frustrated look on her face as she scolded the taller one "Stop that! I'm sure they can still fix things up, right Hoshino?!"

Hoshino just displayed an awkward face as sweat dropped down her cheeks, she didn't know what she has gotten herself into but it was her only choice. She could've been with Connie and Sasha but they were sitting with Bertholdt and Reiner, the very two people she was avoiding. It did hurt her to see her boyfriend frowning most of the time, he seemed so miserable ever since she made it clear to him that she wants some time alone for the time being. She felt bad but it was her only way to think things through.

It wasn't long until Sasha suddenly shouted that she heard the ground shook like there were heavy footsteps, this alarmed the people in the room. A senior, Nanaba then came and informed them about the multiple titans that are attacking from the south, she ordered them to take the horses and escape since they didn't have time to equip their gears. And so, the rookies all ran out of the building except for Bertholdt who waited for the opportunity to take Hoshino's hand and pull her with him.

The girl widened her eyes in surprise at the boy "What are you doing, Bertholdt?!" She shouted at him while she got dragged towards the horse stable. She thought hard about the situation at hand and then realized something making her look at her boyfriend who was pulling his horse out of the stable "Did you have something to do with this?"

He looked at her with an unsure look "Neither Reiner and I have an idea on what's happening, buy I have an idea on who might've caused this..." He said before putting a hand on both of her shoulders "So please, stay close to me. I wouldn't forgive myself if anything ever happens to you."

Hoshino had a flustered look on her face with a bright red color crept on her cheeks, her boyfriend seemed to be genuine as he was saying those things to her, she could finally see the good in him once more. And so they rode their horses, following Mike's lead. Hoshino and the others then decided to go with Connie to his hometown so he leaded them there where they found an absolute destruction, but oddly enough, there weren't blood anywhere that could possibly signify that the villagers had been eaten, it didn't seem possible that they had evacuated also since the horses were still there, untouched.

Connie was going fast as he wandered deeper into the village, Hoshino following behind him "Connie, slow down!" She shouted at him before he suddenly stopped, she followed him and there she saw a titan lying flat on a house, it seemed to be unable to move at all, making them wonder how the hell did that titan end up there. Hoshino looked at Bertholdt who had just arrived and he had a shocked look on his face along with Reiner, their expressions gave her a feeling that they might have an accurate explanation to all this.

After they had prepared the torches, Hoshino had left the town with Bertholdt and the seniors to go and check if the wall had been breached or not, they circled around the wall for what felt like forever to the point that it was already night time and they were still tracing the wall. They began to take it slow and steady since anything could happen at night, their horses walked carefully as they stared in front of them in terror, not until they met the other search team who was also tracing the walls. It turns out that there were no holes in any of the walls which left the soldiers a lot of questions.

And so, they settled in an abandoned castle that they saw not far from them for the mean time, they used whatever they could find in the castle to satisfy their stomachs before sleeping. Connie slept on the floor, Christa slept while sitting, and Bertholdt just sat on the floor, leaning on the wall while Hoshino used his lap as a pillow. They were all sleeping soundly, not until one of the seniors suddenly shouted at them saying that they were surrounded by a herd of titans, this alerted the rookies making them climb up the tower and there they saw countless of titans roaming around the castle.

Hoshino had a terrified look on her face as she looked around and saw a large hairy titan, she thought it might be an aberrant which led her to clutch on her head, not wanting to remember her trauma "Not now..." She whispered to herself, this caught Bertholdt's attention so he reached for his girlfriend's hand and held it in his, attempting to calm her down.

"The titans have entered the castle! Go and barricade the door with everything that you can find! You're on your own for the mean time, we don't even know if we're still alive till then..." The senior had told them before jumping back down to the herd of titans and slashed one of them in a blink of an eye.

Hoshino and the others went back down to the tower and prepared for the worst, Reiner then went and selflessly gave himself the most dangerous task that shocked her and her friends, she didn't know why was this happening now but she was sure that they might actually die right here at this castle, that thought didn't sit right with her. And so, she grabbed the knife in Connie's hand and went after Reiner "I'll go check on him, you guys bring stuff to barricade the door!" She shouted at them and ran down the stairs.

"Hoshino!" Bertholdt shouted at her girlfriend who was long gone into the staircase with Reiner, he cursed at himself before grabbing a digging fork and went after them.

Connie just watched them in fear before immediately snapping "WHY IS EVERYONE LEAVING?!"
