*Merdiths POV*
Well this is just great why is she always the one to get injured. "Derek I know it's not physically possible to tell right now but will she walk again?" "Mer everyone in this room has the same information you do ok? Be there for her no matter what" he tells me and I nod.
"Ok I'll stitch up her arm and put a cast on it what's her favourite colour?" Callie asks me "pink" I reply, it's all so surreal I can't believe this is happening. What if my best friend never walks again. "Ok we're all good up here aswell" Derek says, can she sue the guy who opened the door? No it was a freak accident was it? "I think we'll cast up both legs after Derek does the spinal cord function test" I nod, please please please move y/n, "ok sending signal now" her toes twitch, everyone sighs in relief I feel better. "Alright let's get her up to post op"
"Why just why does this keep happening to her" it's not fair it's just not fair.
*time skip
"It's a miracle she survived the fall Alex, we're lucky she's alive" I say comforting distraught Alex, "Mer she may never be the same" he chokes out "I know but she will pull through this she's a fighter and she has all of us" I say stroking his hair, "Hey I'm going to leave her charts with you if anything happens page me, I'll be at home" Derek says kissing me before leaving the room. "go Mer" Alex whispers "No she's my best friend I'm not leaving her and you know that" I tell him stubbornly. He shrugs and slumps into his makeshift chair bed. "We can't just sit here and wait" Alex groans "she's in an induced coma so she's not in pain Alex it's what's best for her and she will heal faster like this".
*1 week later
Mark and Derek have dragged Alex and I out of y/Ns room now, Derek making sure I eat and shower and Mark makes sure Alex doesn't try anything stupid. "Derek it's been a week now" I tell him as we're driving to the hospital "I know Mer, she still has a chance don't worry she will wake up" "I'm scared" "it's normal" I shake my head at him.
"Today marks 7 days since Dr y/l/Ns accident, we will be lightening the dosage of pain medication and sedative in hope of her regaining consciousness" Derek announces to us all, everyone is on edge all day, Alex and I sit in the chair beside her bed, waiting for something to change. "I'm going to go get food" Alex says getting up and leaving as I nod. I begin to talk to her "y/n we need you, I know this is silly, everyone talks to the person in the coma but idk maybe you can hear us, please come back we all need you, Alex needs you he's falling apart, it's not the same without you" I say.
*y/ns pov
Quietness. peace. Emptiness.
I can hear everything, I can't see, feel, or taste but I can hear, Mer and Alex and Derek. I wonder what happened, I feel ok though I think. I can hear Mer talking to me but I can't talk back, I can only listen. I miss everyone, I want to come back and be my old self.
*Alexs POV
"I got you some coffee too Mer" I say handing it to her as I sit down, if y/n was awake she would want her almond chai, "Mer be honest has Derek said anything about her" I ask sadly, "No and he believes she will wake up, I trust that" she says and I nod as I look over at the fresh pink tulips next to her bed, I've filled them up every 4 days.
*Dereks POV
I scrub out of the OR, I haven't been paged yet, I was hoping she would have woken up by now, I make my way to y/ns room to find a sleeping Alex and chatty Meredith. "Derek she's not awake yet" Mer says noticing my presence "I know honey" I say walking over to her and kissing her on the head, I hate to see everyone especially her like this. "I hate to bring this up but I have a feeling her weight might be a factor in this" I say as a now awake Alex flinches at the mention of that, "I think the dosage of sedative is still too much for her as she is underweight" I say, "dude just lighten it more" Alex pushes, slightly bothered at the mention of her weight, as I'm lightening the dosage I let them both know to page me instantly if she changes at all. "Derek of course we will" Mer reassures me as I rush off.
I'm stupid for making that mistake of course she's underweight she always has been, even that time she developed a binge habit after her abusive relationship ended. I head to my next consult but the patients gone, just great, "Dr shepherd I told you this you're just watching y/n today" Baileys says walking over to me "I'm so sorry I must be tired" "I know it's ok come here" she says pulling me into a quick but reassuring hug, "now go make sure Karev hasn't done anything stupid"
*Y/ns Pov
Beeping machines. A loud snoring Alex, it's peaceful but I feel lonely.
My tongue moves over my dry mouth, wait it can move.
My eyes feel heavy and so do my limbs, everything aches, but I can move my tongue.
I hear Derek sit down with Meredith, I can hear soft whispers between them, I need to cough.
*Merediths POV
"Hey beautiful" Derek says as he sits down next to me, "no updates yet" I tell him "I know I know" he whispers, "why are you whispering?" I giggle "I don't know" he whispers and I can't stop giggling all of a sudden a weak cough echoes through the room "oh my god" I say startled "Mer wake Alex up NOW" Derek yells excitedly as I shake him awake. "W-what" he grunts "she's awake" he immediately springs up out of his chair. "Welcome back y/n we've all missed you" I hear Derek tell her, I just feel relieved.
*y/ns Pov
Everything still aches but atleast I can move, "welcome back" Derek says grinning as I open and close my eyes slowly, "drink some water baby" Alex says holding a straw up to my mouth and kissing me all over, "how's your pain?" Derek asks, "I'm fine" I groan out even though I'm scared to move my limbs as they're aching "are you sure about that?" Mer asks, "fine everything aches a little" I admit "I'll give you more morphine then" Derek says, "do you remember what happened?" He asks, no I actually don't, why does it hurt, why couldn't I feel anything, "well for someone who survived a 20ft drop you're looking pretty healthy" he grins, "seriously?" "Yep you're very lucky y/n we worked hard on you but with enough physical therapy you'll walk and operate again" he grins, wow ok, "you've got 2 broken legs and your right arm that was impaled, we also had to stop brain bleeds but you're ok now" Mer runs me through it, I nod, "I'll let everyone know and you too can enjoy your time together" Derek says taking Meredith with him smirking at Alex.
"I love you so much Y/n I'm glad you're back" Alex pulls me into the biggest bear hug that I barely feel.
