Callie looked up at Five sadly as he finished his story, "I survived on scraps. Canned food, cockroaches, anything I could find." Five chuckled shaking his head "You know that rumor
that Twinkies have an endless shelf life?Well, it's total bullshit"I can't even imagine." Vanya whispered "You do whatever it takes to survive, or you die. So we adapted." Five mumbled "Whatever the world threw at us, we found a way to overcome it."
"We?" Vanya asked looking over at Callie who simply shook her head, "around that time I had my own things going on." Callie stated her leg bouncing up and down.
"You got anything stronger?" Five asked looking up from his cup. "You think I'm crazy."
"No." Vanya stammered not trying to lose the last bit of trust Five had in her. "It's just...it's a lot to take in."
"Exactly what don't you understand?" Five asked taking a sip of the new drink Vanya had given him. "Why didn't you just time travel back?" Vanya asked making Five let out a scoff.
"Gee, wish I'd thought of that." Five sighed raising his voice. "Time travel is a crapshoot.
I went into the ice and never acorn-ed. You think I didn't try everything to get back to my family?""If you grew old there, you know, in the apocalypse, how come you still look like a kid?" Vanya asked, "and where did she even come from?"
Five let out another scoff growing annoyed with his older/younger sister "I told you already. I must have got the equations wrong."
"I mean, Dad always used to say that......time travel could mess up your mind. Well, maybe that's what's happening?" Vanya suggested this caused Five to snap.
"This was a mistake. You're too young...too naive to understand." Five stated turning around going to grab Callie before Vanya spoke up "No. Five... Five, wait. I haven't seen you in a long time,
and I don't want to lose you again. That's all." Vanya sighed Five hesitated before coming to a stop."And you know what,it's getting late, and...
I have lessons early, and I need to sleep, and I'm sure you two do, too. Here. We'll talk in the morning again. Okay? I promise.""Night." Vanya mumbled going back into her room, "you really think you can stop the end of the fucking world?" Callie asked turning to look at Five who had taken something out of his pocket. "I know I can, come on Callie."
"Do you ever sleep Five?" Callie asked as she followed Five out of the apartment. "Do you ever stop taking?" Five remarked
Five teleported the two in front of a building, "just wait out here." Five demanded before he teleported away.
Callie opened her mouth to interject but he was long gone, Callie really didn't know why she bothered with the boy. The girl just sat down on the floor before her eyes drifted to her hand.
She bit the inside of her cheek before she opened her palm, the girl gasped softly staring at the fire in her hand. A loud sound pulled Callie from her thoughts, it was five coming out of the building it was clear that he didn't get what he wanted.
Callie closed her palm and stood up, "you good?" Callie asked hesitantly only for Five to ignore the girl. It was really a lost cause with the boy.
"You know if you let me in on whatever the hell it is you're doing I can help." Callie spoke up finally getting Five's attention, "that's the problem Callie, I can't trust you." Five said dryly, this left the two in an uncomfortable silence.
He wasn't really wrong, as soon as she found Callie, Callie knew deep down she would be quick to tell her everything she learned she owed that woman her life but because of that she lost Five's trust
