Meeting Asmodeus
The black faded to show grown-up Zoe, with Scorpius and Albus Severus standing beside her, standing in front of the same sink as she stood in front of in her second year.
"I remember this." Albus Severus smiled.
"Open." She said in Parseltongue. The circular group of sinks opened and a large, open pipe was exposed. "Stairs." Stairs formed. "Ready?" She asked the boys.
"You're taking two young boys to see that monster!" Hermione yelled.
"He's not a monster." Zoe, Albus Severus and Scorpius defended.
Scorpius and Albus Severus each took a deep breath and nodded. Once they walked down the stairs, they reached a towering stone wall, carved with twin serpents. "Open." She said in Parseltongue. The serpents parted and the giant wall slid open. A vast chamber stretched ahead. Along the path were rows of stone serpents. The serpents rested in pools of black water. Ahead was an enormous statue of Salazar Slytherin. The air is thick with ancient magic, and the walls are adorned with serpent motifs. Zoe Ollivander-Malfoy lead her sons inside, their footsteps echoing.
Ever since Albus Severus had been sorted into Slytherin, his parents had treated him differently... then one day Ginny hit him, after it happened, Albus ran to his room and sent a letter to Zoe, tears covered the page. Knowing this would only escalate, Zoe went straight to the Potter house and took Albus into her care, even petitioning to be an emergency guardianship until she could fully transfer him into her care. By the end of summer, just before Hogwarts, Albus Severus Potter had become Albus Severus Ollivander Malfoy, he even underwent blood adoption - Zoe was in the process of finding the perfect first name for him. She doesn't even call him Albus, she calls him Severus.
Harry took a shaky breath. "Why didn't I stop her?"
Albus Severus looked down. "I don't know."
Harry looked at Zoe. "Thank you for saving my son."
Zoe smiled. "Anytime."
"Scorpius, Severus, this is the Basilisk - the most dangerous creature in the wizarding world." Zoe whispered. "Asmodeus." The boys peered into the darkness, their eyes adjusting to the eerie glow emanating from the serpent's lair.
"Is it real, Mum?" Scorpius asked, looking around in awe.
"He is as real as the magic that courses through our veins. Asmodeus was bred by Salazar Slytherin himself, hidden here beneath Hogwarts." The Basilisk stirred - a massive, serpentine form coiled around a central stone pillar.
"Why would anyone create such a thing?" Albus asked, voice trembling.
"You were so scared." Scorpius laughed.
"Okay. One: so were you. Two: that was the first meeting of a twelve year old of a giant snake that can swallow me whole.
"The fake reason was because Salazar believed in purity. They twisted his teachings into making everyone think that he thought only pure-blood wizards deserved magic. The Basilisk was his weapon against Muggle-borns." The Basilisk's eyes - yellow and unblinking - locked onto the trio.
"What was the real reason?" Albus asked.
Zoe smiled. "Protection. Salazar had found muggleborns expressing their magic in public, exposing us... because of this, muggles tried to find the wizarding world and destroy us. Wanting to protect his students, Salazar bred Asmodeus, as a protector. Salazar did believe in purity... he found that by reproducing with muggles and muggleborns... was slowly being destroyed."
