Chapter 14. From Bullies to Friends

At the armor smiths.

The village seems quiet. During the day, which seems a bit unusual for lunch time. So I just grab my hammer, and start to hammer the farming hoe into the shape that it's supposed to go. Since there is no village farmer, I must take over for a while until someone can do it.

'It should not be that hard to do, I mean it's just farming. My ancestors can grow abondit of food and herbs, so it should not be that hard to do. Right?'

I stop hitting the hoe and lift the hoe too close to make sure there isn't anything I missed. It is a stone hoe, I made tons of them many times. I guess I just want something stronger and last a little longer I guess.

I put the farming tool in some water to cool. Then I went to the big sale window. Pulled out some paper and pencil. Then start to think of something to help protect the village. Something that is stronger than a normal wood fence post.

So I drew a normal fence and posted something to get me started. I felt the sweat coming on. So I rolled my sleeves up. I looked at my left arm, 10 hearts tattooed on me. Just the same as when I was young.

Then there were 3 grown villagers walking to my stand. I quickly pulled my Left sleeve down, not wanting them to talk about it around the whole village of Haven.

"Well, well if it is the freak of nature." said the tall Jeffery, he turned out to be the village nitwit somehow.

But his buddys Larry the fletcher, and Shane the cartographer. Still don't know how they got those jobs but ok.

I just rolled my eyes and went back to thinking.

"Hey yo, you listen or are you mute." Shane said with a slam of hand hitting the table.

I look up to see the boys just smiling with mischief. Then I saw something under the tree. It was those creatures from last night. It starts to walk toward us then, once it steps out of the shade of the tree, flames of hell fire start to burn this creature. Jeffery, Shane, and Larry turn around and for the first time fear is written all over their faces. I crawled up over, pushing the boys out of the way. Draw up my sword and swing at the burning beast head clean off. It dropped to the ground and head rolled right next to it.

I breathed in and out and found snap into reality. I look behind me at the 3 boys looking at me with shock and awe. "You Guys ok?" I ask them, which I never ask them but somehow it felt right to ask them. They nodded their heads and then looked at my stone sword; to as some rotten blood on it. I just went and wiped it on the grass and it was clean then put it back in my Scabbard. I look back at the creature again. I bend down to get a closer look.

"It seems to hate the light or sun. How come I did not notice him when walking here to work". I took both of my hands on my face and rubbed up until I was brushing my hair back. Then the Creature poof into smoke, leaving the familiar rotten meat smell. I left behind a white metallic like. I picked it up and looked at it closely. 'I can't be how'.

I stand up and walk to the window corner, ignoring the 3 guys still there watching me. I raised my hand and took the book out of my inventory. Jeffery, Larry, and Shane; wowed at my magic trick. I set the book down and flip through the pages to find what this material is.

"Hey bro I want to say thank you for saving us from that thing." Said Larry. I just nodded my head, then stopped from flipping pages to look at him. "Ya it's not a problem, I mean it's the right thing to do." Jeffery put his hand on my shoulder. "No Bro, we are grateful for doing that". His voice turned from proud and into a slow regret tone. " We were a jerk to you since day one, and you repay us with protection and kindness, We are very sorry Steven". I look at him in awe and chuckle a bit for calling me the wrong name. "It's Steve actually, but you are forgiven I mean it hasn't been that bad". I smiled and they smiled back. From bullies to friends.

Shane pointed at the drawing I left behind. "Yo what's that drawing there steve?" He picks it up and looks at it. I just went back to my book and flipped a page while still trying to find it. "Oh that is just a sketch of a fence like thing. I'm trying to figure out how I can make a stronger fence around the village". I flipped to the next page to find what I was looking for.

'Iron. a strong ore that can last longer than stone and can be used with many things with it." then it lists the recipe pages in the book. Jeffery spoke and took the drawing into his hands. "why don't you use a stone fence? It's strong right?" I looked at him, then it dawned at me. I smiled.

"Jeffery, that is genius, why did I not note that before?" I grab the drawing and reach to grab the pencil and start to draw it on a cobblestone wall like fence. Then I put it in my inventory, then the book and iron then ran into the shop. I looked at the clock on the wall. It was almost time to go to the farm field. So I ran to the chest and dug into it.

"Hey what bit you?" Larry asks. Concern of what I am doing. I pulled out 4 coal and sticks and walked up to the sales window. "Can I ask you guys a favor?" which is a first for me to ask them. I took the coal and stick in both hands and put them together to make torches but still not breaking eye contact with them. They look at me in awe of how I did that.

"Ya sure bro." Said Shane kind of happy to be put to work by a magician and a new found friend.

"Ok I want you guys to take these torches and place them under trees but not close, and in a dark place". They agreed and I gave them the torches. Then when to grab the hoe out of the water and check if it's ready and ok. "What are you going to do?" Jeffery asked. "I have to go to my second job since the farm village is not going to tend to it anymore." The hoe looked good. Then I walk to the open sign and turn it close then go to the door and lock it.

"Wow he has more jobs then you do Jeffery". Said Shane with a chuckle. I can help but do so myself. I walked by them. "Well guys I'm off, I will be at the farm yard if you need me to give you more torches or anything else".

"Sure thing Steve". Jeffery said, then he and his buddies went to do their mission. Leaving Steve to run off to the farm field.
