"I want to start recording my own songs."
Aurora was currently inside her studio talking with Barry about her upcoming projects in her career. She suggested starting to record her own music, but Barry just laughed in her face.
"Sweetheart, just because your song has entered the top fifty doesn't mean you're gonna make number one. We'll talk when I see that one next to your song," he said, dismissing her idea.
"You know it's gonna reach number one," Aurora argued. "We don't know anything," Barry said, popping a cigar in his mouth.
Aurora scoffed and rolled her eyes. "I don't know why I even tried," she said, walking towards the door.
"Talk to me when you hit number one. Or if," he said, laughing as Aurora walked out of the room. She couldn't even believe she asked. She knew he was just gonna laugh in her face. He always laughed in her face.
Once she got downstairs to the waiting room, she saw Kelsey sitting on a chair reading one of the magazines they had laying out. Kelsey had wanted to come with Aurora for moral support but didn't want to go upstairs. Not because she was terrified of Barry—she'd take him in a fight any day—but the smoke smell was enough to make her throw up.
"Hey, how'd it go?" Kelsey asked, noticing Aurora.
"We're leaving," she said, walking past her towards the door.
Kelsey set her magazine down and ran after Aurora out the door. "That bad, huh?" she asked.
"He doesn't take me seriously!" Aurora stopped in her tracks, turning to Kelsey. "It's because I'm a woman, and I have half a mind to report this entire record label for discrimination!" Aurora said, then walked towards her car.
"Just say the word, and I'll go up there and make him regret everything he's ever done to you," Kelsey said, getting in the passenger seat.
"I love you, but no. I don't need you getting a criminal charge for me. I can fight my own battles," Aurora said, closing her door and starting the car.
"Well, the offer still stands," Kelsey said, shrugging.
Aurora smiled and began driving off to Kelsey's house. Once they arrived, Aurora parked in the driveway, and the two girls began walking towards the house.
"Do you know what you're going to do?" Kelsey asked.
"I need a third opinion," Aurora sighed as they walked up the porch steps.
"Oh, so my brother?" Kelsey smirked as Aurora stopped and turned to face her.
"What?" Kelsey shrugged.
"Stop that," Aurora snapped, pointing at her. "You're the one who told me about your little crush."
"And I regret it every day," Aurora replied before opening the door.
When the girls walked inside, they saw the boys chilling on the couch, watching an action movie on TV. They immediately turned to the girls upon hearing the door close.
"What are you watching?" Kelsey asked.
"I think it's Rocky," Aurora said.
"Uh, it's Rocky Three, to be exact," Luke corrected. "It's the best one," Reggie shrugged.
"Whatever," Kelsey said, throwing her bag onto her brother, making him jump.
"Dude!" he protested, raising his arms.
"Where have you two been?" Mel suddenly walked into the room, wearing an apron and a baseball cap, holding a small shovel. Her apron was a little dirty.
