'This place looks creepy. I like it'

Sunghoon stared at the view from outside the family car, his mouth agape with his front teeth slightly poking out along with his long and sharp top canines as his eyes reflected the dark and cloudy sky while the car moved along the road.

He gazed out at the eerie landscape unfolding before him, his breath catching in awe. The sky loomed dark and cloudy overhead, casting a somber hue over the scene.

As the car sped along the road, he watched with fascination as the trees blurred by, their branches shedding a mosaic of dark and deep green leaves that pattered against the windows.

His parents were engrossed in conversation, oblivious to his wonderment.

His little sister, cocooned in a pink blanket and pillow, giggling peacefully beside him, her soft laughs a comforting sound amidst the quiet of the car.

The little girl turned to her father and interrupted their discussion, her voice tinged with excitement.

"Daddy, are we almost there?"

Glancing at his daughter's reflection in the window, his father smiled reassuringly.

"We're getting close, sweetheart."

She clapped in thrilled giggles covering the perimeter of the spacious car.

The car continued its journey, and the forest grew denser, the trees closing in around them. l

But Sunghoon only continued to daydream about the possible creatures that lurked in the shadowed forest, more excited about how scary the place was.

Ever since his family could remember. Sunghoon had always been the weird one, it set him apart from his parents and little sister.

Supernatural was his fixation.

He liked the paranormal and entities that could realistically kill you just by looking at it.

While his family enjoyed the usual normalities, Sunghoon immersed himself in stories about the enigmatic.

As a child, he spent hours poring over works about vampires, werewolves, and ghosts, his eyes lit up with each discovery. His room was a reflection of his obsession, filled with relics and items that fueled his imagination.

He dressed to fit the aesthetic, avoiding the stereotypical gothic—high collar, dark coat, and all black attire.

If you met Sunghoon in person, you'd see him in dark wash slim fit jeans, layered tops, classic tailored coats and jackets, his underwhelming accessories, and his classic high-top Converse that accentuates his chic and elegant appearance.

Accompanied by his effortlessly exquisite hair, combed to the side and velvety smooth, which moved with the least breath of wind.

And of course, he would never forget a vampire's symbol that defines their identity as blood-thirsty beings.

Fangs.

The feature he loves the most about them.

He fantasizes about the sensation of his canines lengthening and sharpening to fine points, converting his smile into something terrifying and appealing.

Or at least, as close to one as a human could get.

He would stand in front of the mirror, baring his teeth, trying to imagine how he would appear with those legendary fangs gleaming in the light. His fingers would trace the outline of his gums, almost encouraging the fangs to develop.

And next thing you know, he spent his adolescent years stealing his mother's nail files to file down his already sharp canines.

He recalls slipping out of his room late at night to the bathroom and filing his teeth whenever they grew back.

His parents were, of course, aware of his shaved-off teeth. Fortunately, they did not think much of it.

At school, he was known as the odd one out, the boy who favored moonlit nights over sunny days, and the eerie silence of cemeteries over the busy noise of the playground.

Even his parents were concerned that the vampire obsession would consume him, and they attempted to place him in counseling. Sunghoon was offended, but he knew his parents wouldn't understand him.

Most of the people he's met believe he's insane, and he knows it. At the same time, some people think he's hot but talk behind his back.

But Sunghoon does not mind being upfront about his interests. He discovered a sense of belonging that the conventional world could not provide. It was where he felt the most alive.

They think he is being someone he is not because he fails to recognize himself.

But this IS himself.

He's being himself.

Being what he believes he should've been
