Chapter 6: Phone call

"Tinawagan ka na ba ni Adie?" Ken asked me, ka-call ko siya right now. Adie drove me back home around 3:30am kaninang umaga and its currently 12 ng hapon now.

"No, why?" I asked him.

"After she dropped you off kanina, she couldn't shut up about you eh. Sobrang kinilig." He answered.

Ken laughed at the other end of the line. "Well, what can I say?" I jokingly stated.

"I think I said something wrong to the group last night- to Adie rather. Nung umalis ka saglit to go to the toilet." Ken started to sound a little more serious now.

"Talaga? What did you say? Ano ba nangyari?" I asked him, completely oblivious na may namiss out on something.

"Yeah.." He breathed out. "What's the score between you two?" He suddenly asked.

"We've only started talking, still testing the waters." I answered Ken.

Ken and Adie are close but Ken didn't even know Adie goes to New York for uni, so nagulat nalang siya na nakabakasyon lang pala si Adie and she just got back after a year rin. 

"Well, see. I didn't know that. Akala ko kasi kayo na." He added.

"What did you say to her, Ken???" I now started to get a little bit worried. "You didn't think we're actually together, did you?" I asked him

"Well, oo." 

I gasped. "oh my god, seriously Ken?" I screeched. "Seryoso, what did you tell her?" I asked him once more.

"Well, na-share ko lang naman kay Adie about my recent relationship." He started. "Then I told her how I used to like Adie pero that doesn't matter anymore kasi I'm gay now." He added.

"Okay?? And?" I asked.

"Then I said, na yung ideal relationship ko is katulad ng sainyo ni Adie. I told her na if I had the choice I wanted someone like Adie, or wanted something like what you and Adie have- a very private relationship. How nakakasama naming group of friends mo yung girlfriend mo but not many people know about it."

"Oh my god. She's not my girlfriend. Hindi pa kami, Ken! Did you really say that?" I asked, shocked. "Not many people know about it because literally no one knows about it." I added. "What did Adie say on your assumption that we were girlfriends?" 

"Nothing, she just nodded and smiled." Ken answered. "Kaya pala medyo awkward yung smile niya tapos tumingin pa siya kila Avery and Sean."

"Oh my goddd.." I reacted.

"What?" Ken laughed. "totoo naman. I want someone na katulad ni Adie, Joe. She's very calm, and very smart, like very emotionally smart. Tapos very jowa material too, totoong nagkacrush ako sakaniya nang high school." 

"Pati ba naman ikaw? Okay, okay. Whatever, gosh." I blushed with all those compliments Ken said about Adie.

"But yeah, I'm surprised she hasnt called or texted you yet." He added.

"I dont know. We'll see later." I told him. "I'll have to end our call now, Ken. I've got some stuff to do." I stated.

"Seriously? You mean matulog mag hapon?" He teased. "Alright, I'll talk to you later girl. Goodluck sainyo ni Adie." 

I went to the shower and decided to do a little bit of reading on some of my units. It was around 1:30pm when I went down to the dining room for lunch with my parents and my older brother.

"Joey, Adie called me earlier, hinahanap ka." My dad said.

I coughed on my food with what he said. Adie called my dad? NO WAY. PAANO?

"Adie? Bakit daw po?" I asked him once I finished drinking some water.

"Nagpaalam siya na labas raw kayo if hindi ka daw busy. Sabi ko eh naliligo ka kaya di ka makontak pero wala naman tayong plans for today so sabi ko walang problema." He said. 

Wow. Bakit ang bait ng tatay ko kay Adie?

"Oh the girl from this morning??" Mom asked. "She's very nice no. Ang bait na bata." She added. "Saan raw sila pupunta?" Mom asked dad.

"Mall lang daw, sabi niya she wants ou to help her buy clothes daw." He answered. "Hindi pa ba kayo nagkakausap ni Adie, Joey??"

I shook my head to answer him. "Tawagan ko nalang po siya after namin kumain, dad." 

"She mentioned she's on vacation lang dito, have her invited for dinner tonight" Mom said.

Mabubusog na ata ako kakainom ng tubig. Ako lang ba yung nakakafeel ng tension? Am i just overthinking things? If alam lang nilang with landi ang intentions ni Adie, would they be okay with me hanging out with her?

"I'll try to ask her mom." I dismissed.

I called Adie and confirmed that she did call my dad so that we could go to the mall together. I also told her about the dinner my mom invited her to. Biglaan but she did say yes in a heartbeat, surprisingly. Does she not want to spend her vacation with her family and her friends? She's thinking of spending the whole day with me and with my family later tonight.
