Dawn so Divine

Just like the ethereal dawn, the youth can bring light to society. Now, with the hideous darkness of countless issues, they are the glimmers of hope that could persist to brighten people's circumstances.

After two years of postponement, the exhilarating ambiance of the boisterous campaigns and voting is finally back. Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in the country are scheduled to be held this October 30. Even from the side streets, the famed fuss of the upcoming 2023 SK elections reaches my ears. Of course, many are eager, as we are all to pick members who would manage our communities. Nevertheless, there still are some who oppose the elections.

As I was walking down the neighborhood, I overheard a conversation between two of the town's tattletales. They gossiped about how the soon-to-be SK officials won't be able to fulfill their roles for they don't acquire worthy wisdom, given their age.

It may be true that SK officials are young as candidates should be ages 18 to 24 to join. However, it does not suggest an inferior leadership would be attained. Greta Thunberg, a seventeen-year-old environmental activist from Stockholm, Sweden, is renowned for her relentless fight against the effects of climate change in her schooling days. She even managed to attract the attention of other countries.

With the SK, the Filipino Youth can build up their confidence and contribute to the progress of society. Kids in my locale didn't want to help with anything in the past years. But now with the nearing SK elections, they're striving to work daily in simple tasks such as picking up rubbish. Their reason? They desire to train themselves so that they can be prepared when it's finally their time to be a candidate for the elections. Our children can be inspired to be a part of the community's progression as they are empowered.

Also, with more officials, the concerns of people can slowly be given a solution. The SK has done numerous projects for many years that have had an impact on many lives. One of these is the Team 4Ps (Pangkalikasan, Pangongolekta, Pagtanim, at Pagkain) by SK San Mateo, Dasmariñas Cavite. Green covered the areas then as people grew trees and produce. Additionally, the multitude gained benefits as the planted crops became one of their sources of sustenance. This shows that crises in our community can be decreased with SK officials coming around.

Truly, there are various problems dealt with by our community in this day and age. But with more responsible leaders such as the SK officials, we can influence not only the adults but also the youth to help fix the issues in society. The SK elections ought to persist, as it can bring us the light we need in these times of inclemency. Indeed, the SK is the Dawn so Divine.
