Diary of a Scout.
Entry #1
Today is my first official day as a member of the Scout Corps.
I do not know what to expect. We will most likely study the formations and signals used during expeditions, learn about the squadron to which we will be assigned, and become familiar with our superiors and chain of command.
I'm not nervous. Unlike when I enlisted in Troop 104, I now know what awaits me outside these walls: a hell.
I have survived my first encounter with that hell. And now, in a month, I will return to it. But I'm not scared. I'm just anxious and somewhat expectant for what the next month holds for me. Finally, we will be able to take a step forward to recover Wall Maria.
With Eren's powers, I can finally see a glimmer of hope on this dark path. My goal... my ambition is near. Just a little more. A little more and I will finally be able to accomplish what I set out to achieve four years ago. And in doing so, maybe I can think about living a more peaceful life with my family...and with someone I want to be a part of.
And maybe in the future, I can form one with her.
The moment is near.
I must not give up.
The drive to Scout HQ was uneventful. The veterans came to pick up the new cadets in carriages and horses. Since there were only 19 cadets who had decided to join the Scout Corps, it only took two carriages and a few horses to transport all of them.
Victor had decided to go by carriage. Since it was his first day as a Scout, he had decided to record it in his journal. As he smoothly and confidently traced the lines on the pages, he could feel someone rest their jaw on his shoulder and watch him write in his journal.
"It still amazes me how impeccable your handwriting is," Ymir commented, watching him write. "Sometimes I forget that you are a spoiled child of the inner walls. You probably even have a fancy way of wiping your ass."
"Ymir, don't be rude!" Christa chided, from the other side of Victor's shoulder, supporting herself the same way Ymir was. "Although I must admit that your calligraphy really is beautiful, Victor. It is the best I have seen. How is it so good?"
"I write a lot," Victor said, shrugging and causing both girls to raise their heads. "It's like training a muscle. Over time, it gets easier, and you do it unconsciously."
"And what do you write?"
Christa leaned more over his shoulder to see what her friend had been writing, but Victor closed his diary and put it in his jacket pocket, despite her protests and pouts.
"Just keeping track of what's been going on lately," he answered. "I intend to make a book of it. Write down the events that led to humanity finally rising above the titans and taking back the territory we have lost when we take back Wall Maria. I will post it and sell millions!"
Victor clenched his fists passionately. It had always been his childhood dream to be recognized as a great writer. And now he had the perfect story, he just needed to work on it.
Ymir looked at him impassively, as if she was not in the least impressed. Christa, on the other hand, gave small applause in an excited manner.
"That's a great goal!" she said. "I'll be rooting for you, Victor. We will be by your side when that day comes."
"Then you better get ready, Christa," he said, turning to look at her. "Because if you plan to fight the titans, I can't let you do it unprepared. I'll personally take care of training your cute little ass."
