"Hello?" I knocked on the door in front of me for the third time, but nothing happened. The sun was shining down on me and I already regretted not putting on any suncream. After two more minutes, I could finally hear some noise from the inside. The door flew open a few seconds later, revealing my best friend grinning at me. His brown hair was messy and he was wearing his T-shirt the wrong way around. "Sorry, I...had to feed the cats"
I raised an eyebrow. "Sure"
Minho took a step to the side. "Come in. I need a little bit more time"
A cat ran towards me the second I set foot into the house. I took her on my arm and went into the living room to sit down on the couch. "You see, Minho can oversleep too, so being late for class is actually not always my fault," I whispered into Dori's ear.
A bit more time passed before my friend entered the room, this time wearing his clothes the right way around. "Okay, we can go. I'm ready". I sat Dori, who had fallen asleep by now, carefully on the floor.
When we reached the school we were only ten minutes late. Our history teacher looked at us for a second but wasn't really bothered. I closed the door behind me and hurried to sit down at my seat.
History was definitely not my favorite subject but some things were actually interesting sometimes. Not this time though. Throughout the entire lesson, my eyes were practically glued to the clock, hoping time would go by faster.
At one point my gaze shifted to Minho. He sat on the other side of the room and was looking at the paper in front of him or at least that was what he wanted the teacher to believe. Under his desk, he was holding his phone and scrolled through Instagram.
To be honest I could stare at him the entire day. In my eyes, he was the most beautiful person.
The conversation of one of the students beside me caught my attention. It was Kang Jia, talking to her friends.
"I'm finally going to confess to him today!" She said excitedly. The eyes of the two other girls widened. But their next words got drowned out by the other students packing their things and leaving the room.
Minho and I spent the break outside, sitting on a bench and enjoying the first days of the summer. However, after only a few minutes we got interrupted.
"Uhm hey, I hope I'm not bothering you," the girl from earlier stood in front of our table, nervously fidgeting with her fingers. "But could I talk to Minho for a second?"
"Oh yeah sure," I said and quickly stood up. "I'll just...leave." My friend's eyes followed me until I disappeared inside the school building. Just then I realised what this entire thing meant. This girl was confessing to Minho. I was too late and it was my own fault.
The room for my next class was empty. Well, almost, only one other person was sitting in the back, seemingly doing homework. I sat down at my seat next to the window. A groan left my mouth. The window was directly pointing at the bench where Minho and Jia were sitting.
For some reason, I couldn't look away. My friend was laughing at what she had just said. Did she confess to him already? Was he feeling the same way? There was no reason why Minho wouldn't like her. She had good grades, was very popular, responsible and so pretty. There was no denying it. Minho and her would be the perfect couple.
I rested my head on the table. I should be happy for him, he deserved it, even if Jia was now going to be the person who would hear his beautiful laugh, would be able to listen to whatever he was talking about, could watch each and every horror movie with him and kis-
"Hey! Why did you leave me alone earlier?" I almost fell off my chair.
"Don't scare me like that. And well, obviously Jia wanted to talk with you alone, sooo," Minho dropped into the seat next to me. "Why aren't you sitting next to her anyway?"
He furrowed "Why would I?"
"Didn't she confess to you?"
"She did, but how do you know about that?" At that moment Jia entered the room. Our eyes met for a second and she flashed a smile at me.
"I overheard her earlier talking to her friends about it. And? Are you two now a couple?"
"No, we aren't. I don't like her like that." I hated how happy these two sentences made me. Minho was my friend, nothing more.
"Oh..."
A smirk formed on his face. "Were you jealous?" He teased and I could feel my cheeks heat up.
"Why would I be?" It seemed like Minho wanted to say something in response, however he was stopped by our teacher, who had just started the lesson.
I didn't avoid Minho for the rest of the day on purpose, it just happened somehow. The fact that we had mostly different classes probably didn't help though. For the first time in what felt like forever, I had to walk home alone.
>time skip<
It was already 7 pm when someone knocked on our front door. My parents both looked at me, making it very clear that I should go and look who it was.Reluctantly I stood up from the couch, only to see Minho's face the moment I opened the door. I felt a mixture of feelings, not a single negative one though. "What are you doing here? Why didn't you text me before?"
"Ah yeah right," He scratched the back of his neck. "Sorry, I came here to make something clear."
"Okay." I looked at him suspiciously. "Do you want to come in?"
"No, let's just sit there." Minho pointed at the bench in front of our house.
We sat down, and before he said whatever he wanted to say, he took a deep breath. Was he nervous?
"You know, earlier when Jia told me about her feelings?" Well, how could I forget that? Seemingly my thought had translated to my facial expression. Minho let out a chuckle.
"You're cute when you're jealous, however, there is no reason to be, there was never one and there will never be one, you're the only one on my mind and it's driving me insane." My eyes widened at his confession. Did I hear him correctly? Was I dreaming? "I was too afraid to ruin our friendship, so I've never said anything before, but Jia actually encouraged me to tell you, before it is too late. I like you a lot, Y/n."
My heart was pounding, feeling as if it would jump out of my chest any second. My body was very much just doing things on its own. I hugged Minho with no intention of letting go of him any time soon. "I like you too, but I didn't want to lose you. I just wanted to be someone to you. Girlfriend or friend. I don't care as long as I can be by your side." After what I said, I could feel him tightening the hug. "I like you so much," I whispered once again.
