We arrived at the party around 9. It was in full swing at that time as we could hear the pulsating music from blocks away. We pushed the door open and the smell of sweat and booze flooded my nose. Plastic cups and drunk teenagers littered the dance floor as we moved towards the kitchen.
As we poured our drinks alone in the kitchen, I could tell that all of my friends were on high alert for anyone who was acting strange. That rumour site had to fall.
"Let's disperse and see what we can find. Have fun too but keep your eyes open." I advised.
"I'm gonna go to the basement, I hear there's beer pong down there." Gabrielle yelled over the music.
"I'll go with Gabrielle." Tasha suggests.
"We'll be by the pool." Renae then announced.
"Are you gonna be okay to do what we planned?" Reyesha asked.
"No... but if we want to get somewhere with this then I have to be."
"Here's some liquid courage." Tasha stuffed a cup in my hand.
"I'm the driver Tash." I reminded her.
"More for me then." She retorts.
"We'll meet at the car at the end of the party." I spoke pulling out my phone to text Andrew.
"Text in the group if you see anything is out of the ordinary." Renae said as the made their way to their respective areas.
"Bye!" Tasha waved all too excitedly as she downed a cup of liquor.
"Keep an eye on her Gabby. Please." I charged.
"I will.".
As I averted my eyes back to my phone.
Me: Hey, I am here. Where are you?
After getting another cup of soda from the pile on the counter, I felt my phone vibrate.
Andrew: On the roof. I'm alone. Come keep my company?
"Hey guys, I'll be on the roof if you need me." I quickly sent a text message to the girls.
I pushed my way through the bodies on the dance floor until I reached the back yard. A staircase caught my eye, leading up to a terrace on the rooftop.
Ignoring the "Out of Bounds" sign, I removed it and ascended slowly, my heart pounding in my chest. As I reached the top, I first noticed a large Jacuzzi in the middle of the terrace, and then I saw Andrew sitting at the far end, holding a bowl of potato chips. His face lit up with a smile when he saw me.
"A bit of a rule breaker, are we?" I teased, standing beside the Jacuzzi, its light casting a unique glow.
"I just thought no one would bother us here," he replied, standing up and pulling a beach chair closer to his seat. "I'm glad you came. Sit beside me?"
"Sure." I walked over and settled into the chair he had pulled out.
"Chip?" He offered.
"Yeah, of course." I took some chips and leaned back in the chair, my soda still in hand. "Thought you'd be in the backyard or in the basement playing beer pong or 7 minutes in heaven or some other stupid high school game."
"I wanted to, but I opted to be the designated driver tonight too," he explained, munching on some chips.
"Did you now?" I laughed.
"Yeah. It's not so bad though. I'm having a blast," he chuckled. "And I'd rather do this."
"Me too." I pulled my feet up onto the chair.
