The crowd roared in anticipation. The stadium was packed with thousands chanting her name, begging her to begin the show."STAAR! STAAR! STAAR! STAAR!" They cried in unison, stomping with their light sticks in the air.
She stood underneath the stage on a platform, earpiece ready, taking deep breaths. Her face was focused as she recited the lyrics and dance moves in her head. The metronome in her earpiece began counting down and she heard the introductory guitar riff signaling the beginning of the show.
'One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four' she counted in her head, gripping the pink, glittery microphone in her right hand. Everything felt like muscle memory, especially with this being the last show of her world tour before she returned home to LA. She had been through North and South America, Europe, Africa, Australia, and finally, the Asia leg of the tour was coming to a close. Just the week prior, she had performed in Shanghai and Seoul and now she was about to end it all with a bang in Tokyo. Her concentration was unparalleled, this was her life, her element, and music was her true love —her only love.
But goddamnit all they had to open with this song.
Her most popular song racking up nearly a billion streams across Spotify, Apple Music, and Youtube, and that number grew by the minute. The song that was the title track off her latest album. The song that propelled her career forward, earning her a Grammy, A-List collaborations, and the tour she was now finishing. The song that everyone loved.
The song that was about him.
Her heartbeat quickened in her chest. 'God, is he actually here? There's no way...' she wondered. Management had sent him a ticket for publicity reasons. Their history and the fact that she was performing in his city was the hottest topic in the news at that point; all anyone could think about was whether they'd meet up after the show.
She took another deep breath, steadying her heart rate and refocusing. He couldn't occupy her thoughts right now, she was at work.
"Knock 'em dead girl!" Her best friend and producer yelled as the platform her white Naked Wolfe boots stood firmly on began to rise in the air. Sending a quick wink her best friend's way, she got into position, ready to give the best goddamn performance of her life. As she rose to the stage, the crowd became impossibly louder, the stage lights from her back accentuating her curvy silhouette. She hit every introductory beat of the song with dramatic poses, mirroring her biggest inspirations: Beyonce, Britney Spears, and Michael Jackson. She raised her head to look at her fans as the guitar solo continued, flashing a bright smile when the lights hit her face. She brought the microphone to her lips.
"Hello Tokyo~" she purred as her back-up singers began harmonizing before she joined them, her steps down the center of the stage matching the beat of the music. She took just a moment to look around and smile at her adoring fans—her comets—as they gaped at the opening song choice, recognizing its significance immediately. The stadium was packed, a sold out show, actually. The crowd went wild as she began.
