After finishing their discussion with Ushak, the acolytes filed out of his office, each lost in their thoughts about the upcoming trial. The task's weight settled heavily on their shoulders, but there was also a sense of determination and resolve.
They went to the Academy armory, a place they had visited many times before but never with such significance. The door creaked open, as an armour-clad guard, almost expectantly ushers them in. He guides them past the huge assortment of training weapons and padded training armor, before taking them through a second door, revealing rows upon rows of meticulously maintained weapons and armor. The armory was a testament to the Academy's long history and the countless warriors who had trained within its walls.
Utahis walked with purpose, his eyes scanning the racks until he found a formidable greatsword. He hefted it in his hands, feeling the familiar weight and balance, a sense of destiny intertwining with his grip.
Kaiden moved towards a section with shields and swords. He selected a sturdy sword and a shield bearing the emblem of the Academy, a reminder of the legacy he was part of.
Leisan's eyes were drawn to a beautifully crafted curved one-handed sword. Its edge was keen, and its design perfect for swift, precise strikes—exactly how she liked to fight.
Jurt, with a practiced hand, selected a spear, testing its length and sharpness. The spear was a weapon of distance and precision, much like his approach to combat.
Niala, always light on her feet, took two balanced swords. She spun them experimentally, feeling the blades' weight and the fluidity of their movement.
Zalish chose two heavy axes, the heft of the weapons promising devastating power behind each swing. He felt a sense of readiness and anticipation as he imagined wielding them in the trials.
The armory was filled with the sounds of metal clinking and the hushed whispers of the acolytes as they prepared. Each weapon chosen was a reflection of the acolyte's fighting style and personality, a crucial part of their identity for the trial ahead. They strapped on their armor, most with a series of overlapping steel plates, vambraces, spaulders, and shinguards. They then fitted their weapons and exchanged determined looks.
"Ready?" Leisan asked Utahis as he looked the Greatsword up and down.
"Ready." He replied. Offering her a short smile.
With their weapons and armor ready, the acolytes knew they were about to face a formidable challenge. The group left the armory, each acolyte now armed and armored for the impending trial. The weight of their chosen weapons felt both foreign and familiar, a blend of past training and future necessity. Their steps echoed through the stone halls of the Academy, a rhythmic reminder of their unity and purpose.
As they stepped outside, the bright sunlight contrasted sharply with the dim interior of the armory. The air was fresh, carrying the scents of the Academy grounds—earth, sweat, and a hint of blooming flowers. They made their way to the carriages, which stood ready at the edge of the courtyard. Each carriage was sturdy and functional, designed for the harsh desert terrain they would soon traverse.
Ushak stood by the lead carriage, his presence as imposing as ever. His eyes scanned each of them, assessing their readiness and resolve. The Overseer was a figure of authority and guidance, and his approval meant a great deal to the acolytes.
"Good," Ushak said, his voice carrying a note of satisfaction. "You all look ready."
Utahis stepped forward, his greatsword gleaming in the sunlight. "We're prepared, Overseer."
Ushak nodded. "Remember, Varshanorak Ishar is not just a physical trial but a test of your spirit and determination. Stay together, watch each other's backs, and trust in your training."
