Following the decisive victory against the Avarian forces, Utahis and his army are summoned back to Keem. There, they join forces with the larger army under Talor Valtanis Bothrik, combining their strength for a more significant push into Avarian territory.
The next three years are marked by intense, relentless campaigning. Utahis proves himself time and again as a capable military leader, his tactical acumen and personal bravery earning him respect from both his troops and his superiors. The war is grueling, with victories and setbacks, but the Utalan forces steadily advance, pushing the Avarians back.
During this time, Utahis matures further as a leader. He learns to balance the aggressive strategies that won him his initial victory with the patience and caution needed for a prolonged campaign. His reputation grows, and the name of House Aayu becomes synonymous with military prowess.
Then, in the midst of planning another offensive, a letter arrives from home. Utahis recognizes his mother's handwriting immediately. As he reads Oqanae's words, a mix of pride and concern washes over him:
"My dear son,
I hope this letter finds you well and victorious. Your brother Zensiu has just graduated from the Utalan War Academy with high honors. He speaks constantly of joining you in the campaign, eager to prove himself and fight alongside his elder brother.
I know the dangers he would face, but I also know the fire that burns within him - the same fire I see in you. He is ready, Utahis, as ready as one can be for the trials of war.
The decision, of course, is yours. You know better than any of us the realities of the battlefield. Whatever you decide, know that we are proud of both of you.
May the gods watch over you, Mother"
Utahis reads the letter several times, conflicting emotions warring within him. Pride in Zensiu's achievements mingles with the protective instinct of an older brother. He knows the horrors of war firsthand and hesitates to expose Zensiu to them.
For days he mulls over the decision. As Utahis contemplates, he calls a private meeting with his closest advisors, Zalish and Utidass. The three gather in Utahis' command tent, the sounds of the bustling war camp muffled in the background.
Utahis begins by sharing the contents of Oqanae's letter. "Zensiu has graduated from the Academy and wants to join us here," he explains, his voice tinged with both pride and concern.
Zalish speaks first, his tone thoughtful. "He's certainly of age, and if he's graduated with honors, he's likely well-trained. Fresh blood could be good for morale, especially someone of your house."
Utidass, however, frowns slightly. "War is not the Academy, no matter how well they train them. Is he truly ready for this?" Still haunted by the loss of her brother Uthren that weighs on her mind.
Utahis nods, acknowledging both perspectives. "Those are my thoughts exactly. He's skilled, but inexperienced. And as my brother, he'll be a target."
Zalish leans forward. "That's true, but he'd be a target anywhere in this war. At least here, we can keep an eye on him."
"Or be distracted trying to protect him," Utidass counters. "No offense, Utahis, but can you make the hard decisions if your brother's life is on the line?"
Utahis considers this. "It's a fair question. I'd like to think I could, but I can't be certain until the moment comes."
There's a moment of silence as they all contemplate the implications.
Zalish breaks the silence. "Look, we can't shelter him forever. If he's anything like you, Utahis, he'll find a way to fight with or without our blessing. Better he does it under our guidance."
