It was almost 4 in the evening, the hours fleeting away with all the chattering and planning for the groups traveling to Japan. All the while Felix had sat off to a side, providing helpful insights and jokes to be included but never really engaging much with all the turmoil going inside his own brain. He spent most of his time making strategies on how to break the news to his parents and convince them to let him go. And thank heavens no one asked him why he was so distant and uninterested about his own scholarship because he genuinely can't fathom telling anyone that he, a 22 years old grown man, is still living off of his parents' orders and has to ask them for permission for everything. That would have been embarrassing.
Eventually, it became late for everyone. The sun started sinking, leaving the sky an ombre blue to orange at the horizon and Riku dismissed them all home. So, Felix texted Rachel, inquiring whether she would come to pick him and then Olivia. The reply came back soon so he patted his pockets to make sure his phone and wallet was present and then brushed his bangs out of his eyes and put on his cap once more, waving and hugging his mates bye.
He ignored the pit in his stomach telling him that it was probably going to be a long time until he will see most of them again since 2 teams were already leaving by the end of the week and the last team would leave next week. He knew the others were feeling ominous too. Sure, they succeeded to some extent, but at what cost? Going to a whole new country, leaving everything behind, with not even a guarantee that everyone will make it. Granted, they knew that to make a career in dance, Australia wasn't their best chance, but still....
Oh well, whatever. He had bigger obstacles to worry about now.
His parents.
Because most of the dancers were just leaving. Like, pack it up, inform the parents and get out. None like Felix who was still holding out hopes in making his parents accept and love him for what he is. He can't tell whether that makes them standoffishly frosty or him atrociously expectant. He is leaning towards the latter though. Seems like most people his age, or even younger than him, can take a hint about their toxic households and environment while he is just delusional that he can fix his.
Scoff-worthy moment.
He instinctively returned Emma's hug and wished her a good journey and then moved on to Seb, then Xavier, Austin, and then Natalie, who took it a step further by kissing his cheek. Which got all the guys hollering and all the girls cooing and him going 50 shades redder. It was not a secret that she had a crush on him, everyone including Felix knew solely because she never hid her fancy for him. Though she backed away with the flirting when he accidentally let loose that he was gay a couple of months ago. Still, the looks didn't stop and neither did the longing gazes sometimes before she would shake her head and glance away, fully aware her slight disappointment at his sexuality was visible. But she was respectful, understanding and never crossed the line so there was nothing to complain about.
Its not like her feelings would just vaporize within the two months of knowledge that he would never be hers, he knew that and he understood it too. And well, not that he encouraged the flirting but it was a nice relief to know that at least girls, or just Nat, found him attractive. So if one day, his failure ass has to abide by his parents and marry a girl....
Whatever. That's a problem for another day Felix.
Today's Felix already has his problems ready.
Which he would have to face in roughly an hour.
What a nightmare.
He could already feel himself fuming over the fact that he knew his parents won't agree. It was facts by now. Printed in the book of his life. That each and every hobby or passion of his will be extinguished by the people he calls his mum and dad. Whether its dancing, gaming, listening to songs, being on phone, watching tv, going out with friends. Everything had restrictions, everything had a leash. They even took him out of taekwondo. Oh, that was something he was never gonna forgive them for. He was one of the ace there. Had won almost 70 medals. But no, he had to quit before college because according to his parents, it would take his attention off his studies.
