a/n: sorry this took so long to get out, i've been busy, enjoy :)
i was awoken by the song of an american robin. as the bird chirped i rolled out of bed and started my day. i had successfully made it through the first week of school in seattle. yesterday, lyla, sean and i made plans to hang out at the diner.
i dressed simply, but cute. i went downstairs and found my mother in the kitchen making breakfast.
"goodmorning mom." i sat down at the kitchen island.
she turned her attention away from the stove she was cooking on to me. "what are you all dressed up for?" she raised a brow.
"i'm going out with lyla and sean remember? we're going to the daybreak diner."
"lyla.. the girl that walks to school with you?" she questioned. i nodded in response. "and who's sean? i've never heard of him before."
"oh, he's just another school friend." i assured her.
she turned back to the stove, "okay well have fun sweetie. be safe and home before 10."
"you got it mom," i quickly got up from my seat and went to give her a short kiss on the cheek. "bye!"
the plan was to meet at sean's, since his house was in between mines and lyla's. the walk to his house was short. when i arrived i saw that lyla was already there. her and sean were sitting on his front steps. as i walked closer i picked up on what they were talking about.
"i swear he's totally into me sean!" lyla exclaimed.
"bullshit! he doesn't even know your name." sean pushed back. i laughed softly. they had meaningless quarrels like this daily.
"hi guys." i intruded, taking a seat next to lyla.
"y/n. isn't tyler butcher like really obsessed with me?" i now had both of their attention on me.
"i mean, he does look at you a lot during chemistry class."
"see! told ya!" she stuck her tongue out at sean and sat up. "now that i've finally proved my point we can get going." i stood up alongside her, sean followed.
"is the diner far?" i queried.
"not too far." sean replied.
that turned out to be a lie. well, not completely. what is a four minute car ride turns out to be a 15 minute walk. and because lyla license is currently suspended, for speeding in a school zone, we have to walk all the way. after a long walk full of lyla's complaints and sean's sarcastic remarks, we finally made it.
the diner had a large red illuminated sign atop of it, daybreak diner. the outside looked old, not in a rotten way but rather in a loved way.
as we walked through the doorway of the diner, we were hit was a gust of cool air.
"i'm so happy this place is air conditioned." i let out a sigh of relieved and made my way to an open booth.
"me too." sean said as sat opposite of me. lyla took the seat next to me and grabbed the menu on the table. she unfolded it and held it in front of the both of us.
"last time i came here i had the best pancakes." she said, emphasizing on the best.
as she talked about all the things shes tried at this place i decided to take the time to look around. the diner had a vintage look it. all the booths has bright red seats with a white marble table in between. the large windows admitted light, glowing up the black and white checkered floors. i spotted a jukebox in the corner playing 'can't take my eyes off of you' by frankie valli. there were a couple of men seated at the bar ordering drinks, but other than them the diner was empty.
