"Sorry you had to hear all that," I said as Bo finally came out of my room.

"Maybe I should go..."

"Don't be ridiculous. Libbie was just jealous. She'll calm down soon and things will get back to normal," said maman, poring us a bit more vine.

I stayed silent, feeling utterly deflated. I had imagined telling Libbie about meeting Bo, expecting her to be happy for me. Maybe I'd even plan a get-together and finally come out to her, not just to Mom and a couple of exes. I knew I'd gone too far, but I felt so hurt. All she had to do was ask her parents, and she could travel the world, yet she acted like a martyr working in some rundown place.

"Sorry if your opinion of me has changed," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I'm usually not this bad... It just happened. I'm sorry."

"Don't pay her any mind. I think she's just crushing on you and now she's jealous of a hot Mexican like me," Bo said, emphasizing the word "Mexican." It was clear Libbie's last words had stung her.

I wanted to mention Libbie's trigger related to her own mom, but I held back. No point in making excuses for her; she'd already ruined my evening.

"The evening isn't ruined," Mom said unexpectedly, "but the morning will be if we don't get some sleep. I'll grab some bedding and a mattress, and you two can sort out the rest in the room."

I blushed. Was she hinting at something between us?

Bo remained calm and composed. While I stood in the corner like a statue, she helped Mom get everything ready.

"Ms. Allard, let me do the dishes," Bo offered.

"Call me Carole, dear, and absolutely not. You're a guest," Mom replied warmly.

Bo lay on the mattress, dreamily examining my room. She looked adorable in my bear-print pajamas, as if she had always been here, as if she had never left. Without her makeup, she looked so young, like she was still in high school. I wished I had known her back then; I would love to see her family album.

"It's cozy in here," Bo said, her voice soft. "I feel like I've known you forever."

"Yeah, it does feel that way," I replied, sitting down next to her. "You look really cute in those pajamas, by the way."

She smiled. "Thanks. I love them. I think I need a pair of my own."

"Consider them a gift," I said, feeling a warmth spread through me.

Bo laughed, then looked at me with a more serious expression. "Are you okay? About earlier, I mean."

I sighed. "I'm still a bit shaken, to be honest. Libbie can be a weirdo sometimes, but I never thought she'd react like that."

"She really cares about you. Maybe a bit too much," Bo said with a hint of irritation.

"Yeah, I guess." I hesitated, then continued. "It's just... she's always been there for me, and I thought she'd be happy for me. Instead, she's jealous."

"People react differently to change," Bo said, reaching out to touch my hand. "Give her some time. She'll come around."

"I hope so." I squeezed her hand. "By the way, thanks for handling it so calmly. You were amazing."

Bo shrugged modestly. "I've had my fair share of drama. Comes with the territory of being in the public eye."

I smiled, feeling a sense of relief. "You know, I wish I'd known you back in high school. I bet you were just as amazing then."
