Mom helped me style my hair and let me borrow her form-fitting sequined dress. The dress shimmered in the morning light as I admired myself in the mirror, its silvery sequins catching every beam of sunlight that filtered through the window. The neckline dipped just enough to be sophisticated yet alluring, and the fabric hugged my curves in a way that made me feel confident and ready for whatever the night would bring.
I paired the dress with delicate silver earrings that sparkled whenever I moved, adding to the glamour. For makeup, I opted for a subtle smoky eye and a bold red lip, a classic combination that complemented the dress perfectly. Mom had insisted on lending me her favorite pair of silver heels, which added height and elegance to my look.
As I stood ready in front of the mirror, I couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement and nervousness about the evening ahead. Bo's launch party promised to be a glamorous affair, filled with influencers and celebrities from Hollywood. I hoped my outfit would make the right impression and that I would be able to support Bo in the best way possible on her big night.
Bo ordered a car for me to the hotel where the event was taking place. Mom said it was going to be grand. She had already read about it on social media. Bo sent me a few selfies and heart emojis. But it didn't help me, I was too nervous.
I watched as the car pulled up to the elegant hotel entrance, its sleek black exterior reflecting the lights of the city at night. Stepping out, I straightened the shimmering dress, its sequins catching the glow from the street lamps. Bo's excitement was infectious through her selfies, each one radiating anticipation for the glamorous evening ahead.
The entrance was swarming with people: photographers, the press, minor bloggers trying to catch some hype from the buzz around Bo, and throngs of fans holding banners that read, "Bo, you're the best!" It wasn't just Bo's fans, though; there were also fans of the other celebrities expected to attend the party-launch.
"Oh my God, is that Renée Daydream?" I whispered to myself, spotting the musician I adored back in middle school. And was that the YouTuber Libbie always watches and is subscribed to? If she hadn't been such a jerk, I would have invited her to this event. Now she could stay stuck at her boring job, missing out on all this excitement.
The driver opened the door for me and escorted me to the entrance. A massive security guard stood watch, but upon seeing my driver, he nodded and let me through with the other invited celebrities. Nobody paid me any attention; they were all clearly waiting for Bo.
I wanted to ask my driver, a guy who reminded me of the latest James Bond, for some reassurance, but he looked like most men to me — utterly untrustworthy. For the first time, I decided to just go with the flow, pretending I was a star who had been invited here intentionally.
Mom's dress was perfect for the occasion. She had always been a chic trendsetter with impeccable taste, trying her best to pass it on to me, though with mixed results. Whenever I dressed for an important event without her advice, she would gasp and roll her eyes, as if to say, "And this tasteless girl is my daughter?"
But tonight, I felt different. As I moved through the crowd, the shimmering dress hugged my figure perfectly, making me feel like I belonged. Inside, the venue was even more glamorous, with chandeliers casting a golden glow over the elegantly decorated room. The air was filled with excitement and the murmur of influential voices.
I took a deep breath, straightened my shoulders, and stepped further inside.
