The Wolf's Cry

"Get the hell away from her!" The voice erupts from the midst of the crowd surrounding me and silence immediately fills the courtyard, except for my deafening scream that continues to echo. Despite the pain that's piercing each and every one of my veins, I know I must keep moving. I must keep running. I must keep fighting. For I am the last of my kind, and I will not let them take me down without a fight.

The voice that erupted from the crowd sent a shockwave through the courtyard, silencing everyone except for my own desperate screams. I knew I had to keep moving, to keep running, to keep fighting. I was the last of my kind, and I would not go down without a fight.

I whirled around, my eyes frantically searching for the source of the voice. There, pushing through the crowd, was a young man with wild, golden eyes and features that were both human and wolf-like. It was Tyler, my best friend and secret crush.

"Tyler!" I cried, relief and fear warring within me. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm getting you out of here," he growled, his voice laced with a primal intensity. He grabbed my hand and began to pull me through the stunned onlookers.

We ran through the winding streets of the vampire city, Tyler leading the way with an uncanny sense of direction. I could feel the adrenaline coursing through my veins, my heart pounding in my ears as we narrowly avoided the patrolling guards.

"Where are we going?" I panted, struggling to keep up with Tyler's superhuman pace.

"Somewhere safe," he replied tersely, his eyes darting around, alert for any signs of pursuit.

Suddenly, we turned a corner and came face to face with a group of armed vampires. Tyler immediately pushed me behind him, a low growl rumbling in his chest.

"Well, well, what do we have here?" one of the vampires sneered, his crimson eyes glinting with malice. "A little wolf trying to play hero?

"Tyler bared his teeth, a feral snarl escaping his lips. "You'll have to go through me first.

"The vampires advanced, their movements a blur as they closed in on us. Tyler met their attack head-on, his claws and fangs tearing through their ranks with a ferocity that left me in awe and terror.

I watched, frozen in place, as Tyler fought with a primal intensity that I had never seen before. He was a blur of motion, his body contorting and shifting as he transformed into a massive, wolf-like creature. The vampires were no match for his raw power and savage determination.

As the last vampire fell, Tyler turned to me, his eyes glowing with a fierce, protective light. "Are you alright?" he asked, his voice a deep, rumbling growl.

I nodded, my voice caught in my throat. "Tyler, what... what are you?

"He sighed, his shoulders slumping slightly. "I'm a werewolf, Angela. A hybrid, to be exact – half human, half wolf. And I've been in love with you for as long as I can remember.

"I stared at him, my mind reeling from the revelation. Tyler, my close friend, the one person I trusted more than anyone, was a werewolf? And he loved me?

Before I could respond, the sound of approaching footsteps reached our ears. Tyler's head snapped up, his nostrils flaring.

"We need to keep moving," he said urgently, grabbing my hand once more. "There's no time to explain everything now, but I promise I'll tell you everything once we're safe.
