Liam's POV
Unfortunately, the school day was over in the blink of an eye, and Liam was beyond nervous. Fortunately, he had the next two days to recover from the mental duress that Liam was sure he was going to endure that evening.
The brunette hopped out of his car after completing the lonely drive back to his house. Thankfully, when he walked in the door, he was met with the smell of his mother's cooking.
"Hey, ma! I'm home," Liam yelled from the doorway, kicking off his shoes before making his way to the kitchen.
"Hey, honey. How was school?" his mother asked with a smile, stirring what Liam assumed to be pasta in the pot.
Liam groaned dramatically, throwing his head back. "It went by way too quick."
The woman scoffed, raising her eyebrows, "I don't think i've ever heard someone say that about school before," she commented with amusement.
"Whatever," Liam mumbled. "Tonight is the soccer game, and I'm dreading it."
"It'll be alright, sweetie. I'm sure everything will be okay," she said softly, giving the boy a kiss on the crown of his head. "Oh, by the way, I'm making pasta for dinner. It'll be ready for you and Jazz in about an hour, so you both can eat before you leave."
"Thanks, mom," Liam acknowledged before turning to head up to his room.
--
"I can't believe i'm doing this," Liam muttered, grabbing onto the strap of his camera bag.
Claire turned off the car and unbuckled her seatbelt to turn to face the brunette. "Look, Li. You're going to turn on your faux confidence and act like you belong there- because you do," she began with a determined look on their face. "Pretty much everyone knows about the project, I bet, so no one is going to care if a kid with a camera is taking pictures."
"That's not what I'm-"
"Yeah, I know that's not what you're nervous about, but my point is that you just need to treat it like any other school project. Don't give this power over you," Claire demanded, but her expression didn't show anything but understanding and kindness. "I bet that you won't even talk to him tonight. He'll be too preoccupied leading the team or holding balls or... whatever captains do."
Liam let out a laugh. "You sure know a lot about soccer," he joked, causing Claire's eyes to narrow.
"Whatever, bitch. C'mon, get your shit and ready up," they said dismissively, exiting the car.
Liam sat in the passenger seat, staring at Claire with his mouth agape. "Did you seriously just say 'ready up'?" Liam shrieked, "I can't be seen with you anymore." In response, Claire snorted, ignoring the brunette and making her way across the parking lot.
"I'm serious, C. Goodbye," he spoke, walking towards the stadium, but increasing his pace so that there was a considerable distance between the two of them.
Liam wasn't actually serious, but the fact that he genuinely had to be somewhere made it seem like he was ditching the blonde. For the dramatic effect, Liam thought to himself as a smile made his way to his face.
The stadium lights were on, lighting up the field and surrounding areas, while the sun was dipping beneath the horizon. It was about 15 minutes before the game started, so the crowd was buzzing with excitement. Soccer was Woodford High's 'football'. Their soccer team was highly admired due to their talent, while the football team was... mediocre. Needless to say, Liam estimated that over half of the school was in attendance.
In class today, Mack instructed Liam to meet with the coach outside of the boy's locker room before the game. He guessed that this was just to greet the male, and so that the coach will know who will be tagging along with his team for the whole season. The brunette could feel butterflies in his stomach, so he took a deep breath as he made his way past the bleachers and towards the locker room.
