Luxia stood at the edge of Brookestead village, her auburn hair catching the golden rays of the afternoon sun. The rolling hills beyond the village called to her with promises of adventures, stirring a restlessness in her heart that she could no longer ignore. With deep blue eyes reflecting both a calm, serene lake and the intensity of a stormy sea, she gazed into the distance, longing for something beyond the ordinary confines of her daily life.

Brookestead was a picturesque village known for its lush green fields and vibrant community. The people were kind, the work steady, and life was predictably peaceful. The village was dotted with quaint cottages with thatched roofs, gardens bursting with flowers and crops, and winding cobblestone paths that led to the bustling marketplace. The scent of blooming flowers mingled with the earthy aroma of freshly tilled soil. Luxia, however, found predictability had become a cage. Her parents, Raphtalia and Ryker, had always been overprotective, especially after the tragic loss of her older brother, Kaelin, to a deadly illness known as the Wasting. The disease had gradually consumed him, leaving him weak and frail. Their fear of losing her had kept Luxia close, but now, at the age of twenty, she yearned to break free and explore the world beyond the village.

As she stood there, lost in thought, she heard familiar voices approaching from behind. Misa and Kisa, her best friends, were walking towards her, their conversation filled with the latest gossip from the village.

"Did you hear about Mayor Thorne's wife?" Misa was saying, her voice carrying a note of disbelief. "Apparently, she was caught sneaking out of the blacksmith's house late last night."

Kisa gasped, her eyes wide with shock. "No! With Mr. Harlan? But isn't he, what, twice her age?"

Luxia turned to greet them, a smile spreading across her face. Misa and Kisa are identical twins, yet their personalities and subtle differences make them easy for Luxia to tell apart.

With her shoulder-length, wavy chestnut hair, Misa was always the more outgoing of the two. Her bright, sparkling green eyes were full of mischief and curiosity. Today, she wore a simple green dress that matched her eyes, her expression animated as she shared the latest gossip.

On the other hand, Kisa had slightly longer, straight chestnut hair that framed her soft, deep brown eyes. She was more reserved and thoughtful, often acting as the voice of reason between the two. Dressed in a light blue dress, she listened intently to Misa, her expression a mix of surprise and intrigue.

"Good afternoon, you two. Sounds like there is some scandalous news today," Luxia said, her smile widening.

Misa and Kisa looked up, their faces lighting up when they saw Luxia. "Lux!" Misa exclaimed, rushing forward to hug her. "We were just looking for you. You wouldn't believe what we heard in town today!"

Kisa joined in the hug, her eyes filled with excitement. "The Mayor's wife was seen leaving Mr. Harlan's house in the middle of the night! Can you imagine?"

Luxia raised an eyebrow. "Well, that is quite the scandal. What do we think will happen now?"

Misa shrugged. "Who knows? But the whole village is buzzing about it. Mrs. Thorne has always been so proper. I can't believe she'd do something like that."

Kisa nodded in agreement. "And Mr. Harlan? He is more than twice her age and not the drama type. It's all very strange."

Luxia shook her head in disbelief. "Well, I suppose every village has its secrets. But let's focus on today. It's too beautiful a day to get caught up in gossip."
