Luxia woke to the soft glow of dawn filtering through the small window of Rowynn's cottage. For a moment, she forgot where she was. The unfamiliar surroundings quickly reminded her of the previous day's revelations. She sat up slowly, her mind still whirling with confusion and uncertainty.
Rowynn was already up, moving quietly around the cottage. She glanced over at Luxia and offered a warm smile. "Good morning, Luxia. How did you sleep?"
Luxia rubbed her eyes and nodded. "Well enough, considering." She looked around the cozy cottage, taking in the herbal bundles hanging from the ceiling and the neat rows of jars filled with various ingredients. It was so different from her home in Brookestead.
Rowynn walked over with a steaming cup of tea. "Here, this will help you wake up. We have a lot to discuss."
Luxia accepted the cup gratefully and took a sip. The herbal tea was soothing, calming her frayed nerves. "Thank you, Rowynn. For everything."
Rowynn sat down across from her. "You're welcome. I know this is all overwhelming, but we will get through it together. I promise."
Luxia nodded, feeling a bit more grounded. "So, what happens now? I can't go back home, can I?"
Rowynn shook her head. "Not as things stand. The Veil prevents you from crossing back into the human realm because of your Fae blood. But we will find a way."
Luxia took another sip of tea, thinking about her family. "They must be worried sick. They don't even know where I am," she said.
"We'll find a way to get a message to them," Rowynn assured her. "But first, we need to focus on you. There's much you need to learn about our world and your powers."
Luxia's eyes widened in panic. "Powers? What do you mean? I can't have powers. I'm just... me. I'm not some magical being."
Rowynn reached out and gently touched Luxia's hand. "It's okay, Luxia. With your Fae heritage, you might start to manifest powers. These powers can be unpredictable and dangerous if you don't know how to control them."
Luxia felt a wave of fear wash over her. "What kind of powers? What if I hurt someone? Or myself? I don't know anything about magic."
Rowynn's expression was calm but serious. "It could be anything. Fae powers are diverse. It could be elemental control, telekinesis, healing abilities, or something entirely unique. You need to be careful and aware of your emotions. Magic in the Fae world is closely tied to feelings. Uncontrolled, it can harm you or others."
Luxia's hands trembled as she set down her cup. "I don't want this. I just want to go home. I don't know how to handle any of this."
Rowynn moved to sit beside her, offering a comforting presence. "I understand. It's a lot to take in. But we will figure this out together. You'll learn to control your powers step by step. I'm here to help you."
Luxia took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart. "Okay," she said, her voice shaky. "But I'm scared. I don't know if I can do this." She paused, looking directly at Rowynn. "Why are you helping me? You've been so kind, but I've only ever heard awful things about the Fae. Dangerous deals, never eating or drinking your food, killing, and enslaving humans. How do I know I can trust you?"
Rowynn's expression softened with understanding. "I know the stories you've heard, Luxia. And yes, there are Fae who are dangerous and deceitful. But not all of us are like that. I help you because I see the good in you and believe you can make a difference."
Luxia frowned, uncertainty still etched on her face. "But how can I know for sure? What if this is all just some trick?"
Rowynn sighed softly. "Trust isn't something that can be given easily, especially in a situation like this. All I can do is show you my sincerity through my actions. I have no intention of harming you or deceiving you. I only want to help you understand who you are and guide you on this journey."
