The next few days were a blur of activity for the girls. By day, Rowynn helped Luxia hone her powers, making sure she had a strong grasp on control. Rowynn's patience and guidance helped Luxia become more confident in her abilities, and each session left her feeling better about her powers.
At night, they continued their dance lessons under the moonlit sky. The Faelan Glide became second nature to Luxia, and she found herself moving with an elegance she never thought possible. Rowynn taught her other dances once she felt ready. The glow of the forest provided a magical backdrop to their practices. Luxia couldn't contain her amazement no matter how many times she saw the glow.
As the day of the ball dawned, the air was thick with anticipation. The entire realm seemed to be abuzz with excitement, and Luxia could hardly contain her nerves. She woke early, her heart racing with excitement and anxiety. Today was the day. She glanced out the window, watching as the first rays of sunlight filtered through the tree, casting a warm glow over the clearing where they practiced.
"Good morning," Rowynn greeted her with a smile as she entered the kitchen. "Are you hungry? I made breakfast."
"I don't think I could eat. I'm too excited for tonight."
"Are you ready for tonight? I know you'll be just fine."
Luxia took a deep breath and nodded. "I think so. It's just... a lot to take in. It's only been a month since I crossed the veil, and here I am going to a fae ball."
Rowynn placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "You've done wonderfully these past few days. You're more than ready for this. Just remember to enjoy yourself tonight."
They shared a quick breakfast before heading outside for their final dance lesson. The morning air was crisp and refreshing, and Luxia felt a surge of energy as they began. Rowynn watched Luxia perform the Faelan Glide before moving on to the newer dances. As she moved through the steps, Luxia felt a sense of calm wash over her. The familiar motions helped to steady her nerves, and she found herself lost in the rhythm of their dance.
After an hour of graceful movement and intricate spins, they paused for a break. Rowynn handed Luxia a water cup, and they sat down on a nearby log to catch their breath. The sun was still high above their heads, late morning breeze cooled the sweat on their skin.
"You've come a long way, Lux," Rowynn said, smiling proudly. "You came stumbling into the fae realm, now look at you. Elegant, a little more confident, and ready to take on the dance tonight."
Luxia blushed and chuckled at the comment. "I couldn't have done it without you, Roe. You've been an amazing friend and mentor."
Rowynn's eyes sparkled with warmth. "And you've been a wonderful student and friend. Now, let's get cleaned up and ready for the ball tonight. You stink."
The two burst out laughing and made their way back to the house, where preparations for the ball awaited. The day passed in a whirlwind of activity- bathing, because they both did actually stink, dressing, and putting the finishing touches on their outfits. The dresses were as beautiful as ever as Luxia stared at the emerald dress laid on her bed. She couldn't wait to see how it looked in the evening light.
As the sun began to set, Rowynn helped Luxia with her hair, weaving delicate braids and pinning them into an updo. They slipped into their gowns, the fabric feeling luxurious against their skin. Luxia's emerald dress shimmered in the fading light, and Rowynn's sapphire gown flowed around her in a river of stars.
"It's time," Rowynn said, offering her hand to Luxia. "Let's go show see what this royal engagement ball is all about."
Luxia's heart pounded with anticipation as the carriage rolled down the path leading to the Twilight Gardens. The gentle sway of the carriage did little to calm her nerves, but Rowynn's reassuring presence beside her was a comfort. The sun was dipping below the horizon, and as they approached their destination, the world around them began to shimmer with a soft, magical glow.
