Chapter 1: Life After Sirius

an: this chapter is very short!

What do we really mean when we say 'I love you'? Well Remus thought he knew. The years he spent loving Sirius consumed all of his thoughts. The way they had laughed together, the way they had shared their kisses. Everytime he blew out candles, saw a shooting star, noticed that it was 11:11; he would wish to hold Sirius again, even if it was just for a second. For twelve years Remus thought he would never see him again. Every night he would wake up in a sweat; having nightmares about the night of October 31, 1981. The image of Lily and James, lying on the carpet next to Harry, breathless, still, and cold. It seemed that he could never escape it. At this time he still didn't know that Peter had been the traitor, that his beloved Padfoot was innocent, but somehow he still missed him.

One night, Remus was sitting in the apartment they owned together. Every smell, song, feeling, reminded him of Sirius. He sat down on the couch, a glass of warm butterbeer in hand. He started to think about his years at Hogwarts.

He reminisced about every prank he helped pull, when he would read under the trees near The Black Lake, sneaking out to get chocolate from Honeydukes late at night with the other three boys. He smiled at the thought of his friends. The same boys who didn't abandon him when they found out about his "furry little secret". They were the only people who understood him. The things they had risked for him.

That got him thinking about one night in late November, he was in the shrieking shack, bloody, scared, and cold. Sirius had come in to make sure he was okay. He always cared for Remus, no matter what. Padfoot had held Remus in his arms while cleaning his blood; they were both too young to have to handle this, but Sirius knew that he couldn't do it alone. They had fallen asleep, Remus still in his arms, the only reason they had woken up when they did was because James and Peter had come in to help him. As Remus slowly opened his eyes he saw the other Marauders, Sirius started to run his hand softly up and down his back as he woke up. Remus felt at home with Sirius, like nothing could hurt him as long as he was with the other boy. He just wanted his Siri back.
