- Love on the Lookout, 1890, by William-Adolph Bouguereau
Jungkook leaned back into his chair and glared at the portrait sketch he had been doing for the past couple of workshop sessions. Sure, one could argue that he was still in his first couple of layers, therefore he wasn't supposed to expect greatness right off the bat. But something about the look of what the painting was turning out was throwing off and he didn't know what.
The scent of flowers filled his surroundings and he had to fight the urge to sink into his seat and relax into the heat of the body that was now by his right side.
It was amazing that he could pinpoint Sophia's presence just about anytime, now.
"Hum... That shadow is looking a bit off. If you have her leaning that way, then the shadows should be more prominent here." She said, leaning in slightly to point out the area she was referring to.
Jungkook felt like smacking himself. Right! That made sense. He wondered why he hadn't noticed before.
As she swayed to the side and moved to get closer to another student, Jungkook thought how strange it had been to settle into the idea of someone commenting on his paintings. After getting that degree in arts fifty years prior, he wasn't particularly trying to get anywhere with the paintings he did. He considered himself to be quite adept when it came to painting and drawing. And seeing that he had quite a long time to practice and put his knowledge into work, he knew for a fact his paintings were good.
So, the past session, when Sophia had corrected him in the slight slanty eyes he had drawn on the canvas, Jungkook had been flustered, annoyed, surprised and amused all at once. Like a good student, though, he corrected the mistake and was truly dumbfounded when he realized she had been right all along.
Ah, yes! The beauty of the arrogance of the Gods.
Jungkook wasn't stupid. He knew he was an arrogant little prick at most times. It was the common trait of every single deity that existed. He didn't consider himself the worst, but Jungkook knew he had his own issues. The fact he had been annoyed over Sophia merely doing her job, while he had signed up for it was pure evidence.
As the workshop came to an end, he stayed in his place, still leaning back to look at the piece he had started to work on. One of the girls that spoke to him the most, Dohyun, tapped him gently on the shoulder as she leaned to look at his work. She was a gentle soul, he could tell. And it was funny to realize that she spoke to him merely because she was curious about him, not because she was stricken with his looks and interested in getting something out of staying close. Dohyun was simply curious.
"Take a break, it might help. But it already looks really cool, you know."
"Yeah, I don't know about that. I think it looks stiff." He mumbled, the lines in the small panel bothering him the longer he looked "I think I'm not used to working so small."
