Greta, Penn, and Emma walked briskly through the quiet streets, the morning sun casting long shadows across the cobblestones. The town seemed to hold its breath.

"I still can't believe what you saw in that dream," Emma murmured, breaking the uneasy silence. Her eyes flickered nervously towards the dense line of trees that marked the beginning of the forest.

Greta nodded solemnly. "It felt too real to be just a dream..."

Penn glanced at Emma, his expression serious. "Can we trust this woman?'

Emma's eyes lit up. "Miss Agnes is known for her knowledge and beliefs about the history of witchcraft. She's our best bet."

Greta hesitated, remembering the tales of Miss Agnes' solitary life in the outskirts of town, surrounded by herbs and wildflowers. "I agree. She might be our best chance to find out more about The Serpent's Circle symbol."

They turned onto a narrow path that led towards the edge of town, where Miss Agnes' small cottage stood nestled among gnarled trees and wildflowers. The air grew cooler, and a sense of anticipation hung heavy around them as they approached the weathered wooden door.

Greta knocked, the sound echoing through the quiet clearing. Moments later, the door creaked open, revealing a stooped figure with bright, piercing eyes and a weathered face framed by wisps of gray hair.

"Miss Agnes," Greta greeted respectfully. "We need your help."

The old woman regarded them silently for a moment before nodding, a knowing glint in her eyes. "Come in, children."

Inside, the cottage was filled with the scent of dried herbs. Shelves lined the walls, filled with jars of mysterious ingredients and stacks of yellowed parchment. Miss Agnes motioned for them to sit at a wooden table, where a single candle flickered in the dim light.

Greta placed the scroll on the table, pushing it towards Miss Agnes. "We found this scroll in the mansion."

"And we believe, this symbol here" Greta notions to The Serpent's Circle "is tied to the curse, and holds the answers on how to perform a counter-ritual that will free Pikeswood, but we don't know what it means."

Miss Agnes leaned forward, her eyes narrowing as she studied the symbol. "The Serpent's Circle," she murmured, her voice carrying the weight of centuries-old knowledge. "An ancient sigil, also known as Ouroboros. The serpent eating its own tail, represents eternity and the cyclical nature of time... or in this case, the curse."

Penn leaned in, his voice urgent. "Can you tell us more? Anything that might help us understand what we're up against?"

Miss Agnes nodded slowly, her gaze distant as she delved into memories long buried. "The Serpent's Circle was used in the rituals to bind the spirits to the forest. It's a symbol of containment, but also a gateway. Those who wielded it sought to control forces beyond their understanding, and in doing so, they unleashed a darkness that has plagued this town for generations."

Emma shivered, her eyes wide. "So, breaking the curse... it won't be easy."

"No," Miss Agnes agreed solemnly. "But it can be done."

Miss Agnes delved deeper into the symbol "look over here. Within the circle, there are three interlocking triangles, each pointing in different directions, symbolizing the past, present, and future intertwined. At the center of the triangles lies a small, radiant sun, representing hope and the power of light over darkness."

"But what does that mean?" Greta asked puzzlingly, but is ignored by Miss Agnes.

"The Serpent's Circle is surrounded by a series of smaller symbols and runes etched into the circumference of the main circle." She runs her fingers across it. "These runes are ancient protective incantations meant to ward off malevolent spirits and seal the curse once the ritual is complete. Each of the triangles contains smaller glyphs representing elements of the curse: one with a tree, signifying the cursed forest; another with an eye, symbolizing the watcher spirits; and the last with a broken heart, representing the tragedy and loss that perpetuate the curse."

"What is the ritual?" Penn asked pointedly.

"The entire symbol must be drawn with a mixture of salt and sacred herbs, and it needs to be inscribed at the center of the forest – the mansion – where the malevolent forces are strongest. This will anchor the counter-ritual, focusing its energy to break the curse and protect those involved in the ritual." Miss Agnes said ominously.

Emma glanced nervously at Greta "Okay, draw the symbol in the mansion. Should be easy... right?"

For a moment, they all just stared at each other, no one knowing what to say.

Miss Agnes then turned to the trio and smiled faintly, a glimmer of hope in her eyes. "You carry the weight of your ancestors' mistakes, but also their courage. Trust in each other, and in the power of knowledge. Together, you can break The Serpent's Circle and free Pikeswood from its grip."

With the scroll safely in hand, the trio made their exit, prepared to face the malevolent forces of the forest. The Serpent's Circle would be their guide, a beacon of hope in the darkness that had shrouded Pikeswood for generations. And with it, they would finally confront the curse that had haunted their town for far too long.

"This is it." Greta said. "We know what we have to do."
