The air was thick with tension and the smell of burning incense as Greta and Emma stood within the circle of protective runes, their voices raised in the final incantation. The spirits of Greta's ancestors surrounded them, their ethereal forms glowing with a protective light. The malevolent entities screamed and thrashed, their hold on the chamber and mansion weakening with every word.

"By the power of light and love, we banish this darkness, as below, so above," Greta chanted, her voice strong and unwavering.

Emma's voice joined hers, filled with determination and strength. "By the spirits of the past, this curse shall be cast..."

The malevolent force roared in defiance, but the combined power of the living and ancestral spirits was too strong. The ground trembled, the ancient stones glowing brighter, the darkness receding.

Greta's mother's spirit stepped forward, her voice firm. "End this now, Greta. The time has come."

With a deep breath, Greta raised her hands, her eyes closed in concentration. "With this final decree, I set us free, by the light of day, the curse shall be undone this way."

A blinding light erupted from the runes, enveloping the malevolent spirits. Their wails echoed through the night as they dissolved into nothingness, the dark energy dissipating like smoke in the wind. The oppressive weight lifted from the air, leaving behind a serene, almost sacred silence.

"It's over," Emma whispered, her voice trembling with a mixture of relief and exhaustion. "We did it, Greta."

Greta nodded, tears streaming down her face. "The curse is broken."

They stood there, taking in the moment of victory, but the weight of Penn's sacrifice hung heavily in the air. The joy of their triumph was tainted by the loss of their friend.

Suddenly, a soft, familiar voice broke the silence. "Greta... Emma..."

They turned to see Penn's spirit, glowing softly in the dim light. He smiled at them, his expression peaceful.

"Penn," Greta whispered, her voice choked with emotion.

Emma stepped forward, her eyes wide. "Is it really you?"

Penn nodded, his form shimmering. "I couldn't leave without saying goodbye. You both were so brave... so strong."

Greta reached out, her hand trembling. "We couldn't have done it without you, Penn. Thank you... for everything."

Penn's spirit smiled, his eyes filled with warmth. "Take care of each other. And remember, I'll always be with you... in spirit."

A deep rumble interrupted their farewell, the mansion beginning to shake and groan. The walls, weakened by the ritual and years of decay, started to collapse.

"Greta, we have to go!" Emma shouted, grabbing her arm.

Greta nodded, her eyes still locked on Penn's spirit. "Goodbye, Penn."

"Goodbye," Penn whispered, his form fading as the mansion continued to crumble.

They ran through the halls, dodging falling debris and navigating the collapsing structure. The ground beneath them shook violently, the ancient mansion succumbing to its final moments.

"Faster, Emma!" Greta urged, her heart pounding in her chest.

They burst through the front door just as the mansion gave one final, deafening roar. The entire structure collapsed in on itself, sending up a cloud of dust and debris. Greta and Emma stumbled to safety, breathing heavily, covered in grime but alive.

They turned to watch as the mansion was reduced to rubble, the dark legacy of Pikeswood finally coming to an end. The oppressive energy that had haunted the town for generations was gone, replaced by a sense of peace and closure.

Greta sank to her knees, tears streaming down her face. "It's over. It's really over."

Emma knelt beside her, placing a comforting arm around her shoulders. "We did it, Greta. We broke the curse."

They sat there in silence, the weight of their journey settling in. The loss of Penn was a heavy burden, but his sacrifice had not been in vain. The town of Pikeswood was free at last, and the spirits of the past could finally rest.

As the first light of dawn broke over the horizon, Greta and Emma stood together, facing the future with a renewed sense of hope and determination. They had faced the darkness and emerged victorious, their bond stronger than ever.

And as they walked away from the ruins of the mansion, Greta felt a sense of peace wash over her. Penn's spirit, and the spirits of her ancestors, would always be with her, guiding her through whatever challenges lay ahead. The curse was broken, but their journey was far from over.

For Greta and Emma, the whispers in the dark had finally been silenced, and a new chapter of their lives was just beginning.
