Before we begin, can you share a bit about yourself and how your journey as a writer began?
Hello to you who is reading this right now, my name is Dianne and I am a high school student who found solace in writing at a tender age of 10. It started as regular story-telling which made no sense, then it progressed to something I set my eyes on possibly for a life time, pushing me to publish my first book at 12.
1. How would you describe your writing style in three words, and why do these words resonate with you?
My writing style is entertaining, easy to understand and relaxing. Those three words (or more than three) resonates with me because I write the way I prefer reading.
2. What inspired the themes explored in your book? How do these themes resonate with your personal beliefs or experiences?
My book 'Whispers of the Willows' was inspired by a midnight nightmare I had. The theme in the books doesn't resonate with me on a super-personal level like beliefs or experiences, but the themes resonates with me because I drop a hint, even the slightest hint about my self in any/all books I write.
3. Describe a scene from your book that was particularly fun or satisfying to write. What made it enjoyable?
I don't recall much scenes from the book because it's been a long time since it has been on a hiatus but the one I do recall is of the bat 'M' being squashed. What made it enjoyable was the accurate portraying of disgust in the main character's face, but I believe it'll be more enjoyable if I vary my word choices.
4. What's the first story or piece of writing you remember creating as a child?
I've created lots of story as a child, but one I remember is a recent one called, "Tender Love". As a 7th grader then, I was fairly interested in all those lovey-dovey K-drama stories, which was what inspired me to write that.
5. If you had to choose a soundtrack for your book, what songs or type of music would be on it?
It would be a music that gives off a eerie feeling, something you can't shake off, but with a hint of calmness- something soothing. I know eerie and calmness can't be put together but that's the type of music I feel would suit my book.
6. What's the most surprising thing a reader has ever said to you about your books?
One comment my friend made about the book was something along the lines of, "I couldn't focus fully on the book because that dude Dorian sounds so similar to the fruit, Durian." 😁
7. If you could swap lives with one of your characters for a day, who would it be and what would you do?
If I could swap lives with one of the characters in my book, it'd be Dorian because his life just seems pretty sad and I'd be happy to change that for him.
8. What inspired you to write this particular book, and how did your personality shape the direction of the narrative?
This particular book (my my), the original version was very dark and twisted, so I just settled for this version known on Wattpad. Now to answer the question, I've watched a lot of serial killers documentary and one of them moved me to make this book.
9. What can readers expect from you next? Are there any upcoming projects or ideas you're excited to share?
Oh okay, I've been very excited to share this with someone aside from my imaginary friends and I need you to listen up 🤭. I'm currently working on a hand-written story called 'Launched Love' which is about a musician falling in love with a man from North korea who was tragically killed by the dictator of North Korea and yeah, she goes undercover to skillfully plan a revenge.
10. Any tips for aspiring writers?
A tip for an aspiring writer like me is to believe in where your mind leads you, creativity is a wonderful thing so DON'T ever shut it out. Even when the views, comments and votes on wattpad might not be high, your dedication is all that matters.
11. Is there anything you'd like to say to your fans/readers?
For my readers/fans reading this right now, some times things don't go as planned and that's part of life but if it's something that keeps you down, you can always come to me for help to maybe shout out your book or vote or comment on your book, even side quest that will make you happy would be a pleasure to do.
Have a good time and thanks for reading💖
