0005. SLEEPING THROUGH BUS RIDES

A WEEK HAD passed, and the much-anticipated day of the field trip had finally arrived. Astoria, however, was far from her usual energetic self. She was utterly drained, a state of exhaustion that was the direct result of the previous night's events. Her father, in an unexpected move, had roused her from her sleep in the wee hours of the night, insisting that she wash the dishes. This interruption had robbed her of her much-needed rest, leaving her struggling to keep her eyes open as she leaned heavily against her car door.
Standing before her were Taylor and Tyler, who she had once again driven to school today, just as she always did. Together, they formed a trio, a small part of their class that was joined by another class, all eagerly waiting for the bus to be loaded up. The air was filled with a palpable sense of anticipation, a mix of excitement and nervousness that was typical of such trips.
Astoria's backpack, packed to the brim with her clothes and other essentials for the overnight trip, was perched atop her car. She felt a twinge of unease at the thought of leaving her car in the school parking lot overnight. It was a sentiment that was hard to shake off, despite the numerous reassurances she received that her car would be perfectly safe.
Astoria was lost in her thoughts when a sudden outburst from Tyler brought her back to reality. Tyler seemed to be annoyed at Taylor, who was attempting to grab his water bottle. He snapped at her, his voice echoing in the air, "Hey! Get your own!"
