Shan came home with tired footsteps after a long day
out. He was eager to tell his mom about his dream of
becoming a musician.
"Mom, I'm home!" shouted Shan. Shan's voice
echoed throughout the quiet house. There was no
answer from his mom. Shan began to feel worried.
"Mom, where are you? Dinner is ready,
" Shan said
while arranging the food on the table. Shan looked for
his mom all over the room, but he didn't find her. He
started to panic and get scared.
Shan whispering to himself,
"Maybe mom is outside?
I'll try looking around the house." Shan went outside
and looked for his mom in the front yard, in the
garden, and on the streets around the house. But he
didn't find her anywhere. Shan was getting more and
more panicked, and his heart was filled with anxiety.
Suddenly, his neighbor approached him in a hurry.
"Your mom is in the hospital. She's had an accident.
She is now being taken to Pelita Kencana Hospital,
"
said his neighbor with a worried look on her face.
Without replying, he decided to go straight to the
Pelita Kencana hospital, hoping to find his mother
there. When he got there, he saw many people he
knew and neighbors crying bitterly, and Shan's face
turned pale. One of his neighbors saw him standing at the end of the hallway and immediately ran over and
hugged him.
"You have to be patient. Your mom is already there,
"
Shan immediately fell limp with a pale face and was
full of tears.
He had just received news from the doctor that his
mother had died. Shan's world seemed to collapse
instantly. He couldn't believe that his mom had left
him. Sadness, anger, and confusion mixed in his
heart.
"This can't be happening. Mom can't leave so soon. I
still have a lot to say to Mom." Shan whispered to
himself.
Shan recalled his conversation with his mom a few
days ago. His mom still didn't supported his dream of
becoming a musician. He regretted not being able to
show his mom his musical talent and his big dreams.
"I'm sorry, Mom. I didn't mean to make you angry. I
just wanted to show you that I can be a successful
musician. I want to make you proud." Shan burst into
tears. Shan felt lost and alone. He didn't know what to
do without his mom.
Ara, Shan's best friend, came to visit Shan in the
hospital. She saw Shan sitting pensively by the
window, his eyes puffy from crying. She had rushed
to the hospital when she heard the news from Shan's
neighbor, who had picked up her call on Shan's
mobile phone. "Shan, are you okay? I just heard from your neighbor.
I'm sorry to hear that your mom passed away,
" Ara
said softly. Shan turned to Ara, and his eyes filled
with tears.
"Thank you, Ara. I don't know what else to say." Shan
said it with a trembling voice. Ara sat next to Shan
and hugged him tightly.
"I know this is very hard for you, Shan. But you are
not alone. I'm here for you. We will get through this
difficult time together," she said. Shan felt a little
calmer in Ara's embrace. He felt grateful to have a
best friend like Ara, who was always there for him.
"How do you want me to help you, Shan? What can I
do for you?" asked Ara. Shan was silent for a
moment, thinking about what he needed. "
I want to go to Mom's house to get some things. Can
you accompany me?" said Shan, wiping his tears.
"Of course, Shan. I'm ready to accompany you
whenever you want," Ara said with a smile.
Ara and Shan went to Shan's house. They found some
of Shan's mother's personal belongings, such as old
photos, her favorite books, and the guitar that Shan
used to play with his mother.
"This guitar was a birthday present from my mom and
dad. We used to play music together. I will always
keep it to remember my mom and dad,
" Shan said
while holding the guitar tightly. Ara hugged Shan tightly. "Your parents must be proud
of you, Shan. They must be happy to see you become
a talented person. Keep practicing and show the world
that you can achieve your dreams." Shan smiled
weakly.
He knew that Ara was right. His mother would have
wanted him to be happy and successful. A few months
after his mother's death, Shan sat in his room, staring
at a photo of himself with his mother. In the photo,
they were both smiling happily. Shan recalled his last
conversation with his mother before the accident.
Shan let out a long sigh. He still isn't sure if he wants
to be a pilot. He still wanted to be a musician. But he
also had wanted to make his mom happy.
"Mum, I will fulfill your wish. I will be the best pilot
for you." Shan whispered to himself. Shan took his
mobile phone and contacted Ara to ask for a meeting.
The next day, Shan and Ara sat in their favorite park.
The cool daytime atmosphere and the gentle breeze
made them feel comfortable.
"Thank you, Ara. I don't know what would have
happened to me without you. You're the best friend
I've ever had,
" Shan said suddenly,
"You're welcome, Shan. I'll always be there for you,
no matter what. We will support and strengthen each
other,
" Shan and Ara smiled at each other. They knew that their friendship would always be
there, even amidst the sadness and obstacles they
faced.
"So, what about your dream?" asked Ara.
"I will fulfill my mom's wish, even though it's not my
dream, but I consider it my mom's last wish,
" said
Shan.
"Are you sure? You have great potential to be a
musician. You're good at it, so don't push yourself,"
said Ara seriously.
"I'm already sure. I'll bury my dream deep." Shan
said.
After the conversation, they decided to go to
Gramedia. Shan wanted to buy books to pursue a
scholarship to pilot school. At home, Shan sat in front
of his desk, surrounded by books on aviation and
navigation maps. He studied diligently to prepare for
the pilot school entrance test. Shan knew that
becoming a pilot would cost a lot of money. He would
have to get a scholarship or work hard to pay for his
schooling.
"I have to be able to. I must become a pilot.' Shan said
with confidence.
He searched for information on scholarships and took
various pilot school entrance tests. While elsewhere,
Ara was busy studying for the medical school
entrance test. She had high ambitions to become a doctor, and she was lucky that her parents also fully
supported her.
Room Chat (Ara's POV)
Ara
studying?
Shan
Yaps, it's quite difficult
Ara
Just take it slowly. It's also called switching, already
in the habit of seeing music notes and was suddenly
told to learn the buttons.
Shan
It's okay; it's called maturing, getting out of your
comfort zone. By the way, when is the test?
Ara
Day after tomorrow, you too, right?
Shan
Surely, I'm sure now you want to cry; I'm already
confidently successful.
Ara Yes, I'm really scared, can I?
Shan
We can do it, can't we?
Ara
To be sugar baby
Shan
Wtf, go to sleep, it's getting late.
Ara
Yes, I'm going to bed.
Shan
Ok good night, last chat on me
The long-awaited day arrived. Ara would start her test
this morning. She was escorted by her parents to the
test center.
"Cheer up! I'm sure you can do it," said Ara's father.
"Yes, our daughter can achieve it," said Ara's mother,
encouragingly.
Ara was very happy to get warm words from her
parents. Inside the exam room, Ara sat among the
other test takers. She was tense and nervous, but she
had been determined to give her best. "Alright, participants, please do the questions
carefully and as quickly as possible,
" said one of the
invigilators.
Ara worked on the questions with full focus and
concentration. She remembered all the material she
had learned and tried to answer all the questions
correctly. Meanwhile, elsewhere, Shan was also
struggling with the pilot school scholarship questions.
Sweat poured down his forehead, even though the
room was quite cold. After finishing his work, Shan
saw a notification on his mobile phone from Ara.
Room Chat (Shan's POV)
Ara
Are you done?
Shan
Done, want to meet?
Ara
Yes, come on, my head feels like it's going to burst.
Shan
OK shareloc, I'll pick up you there
Ara
*Send location A few weeks later, Shan accompanied Ara to see the
results of her test. She had deliberately asked Shan to
accompany her because she was afraid. She would
have collapsed if she had opened it herself. Ara
opened the test result announcement with trembling
hands. She read each line carefully, and her heart
broke when she saw the words 'NOT PASSED'
written there. Tears streamed down her cheeks. Her
dream of becoming a forensic doctor was dashed.
Shan, who saw this, immediately hugged Ara. He
knew Ara must be devastated right now. They hugged
for a long time until he didn't hear the sound of her
crying anymore.
"Want some ice cream? I'll buy it for you," said Shan,
persuading Ara.
"Let's go outside; I need some fresh air,
" said Ara as
she wiped away her tears.
They immediately went to the convenience store to
buy ice cream and then went to the park.
"I don't know what to do now, even though I've
learned so much, but the results," said Ara, who
couldn't continue her words because she was about to
cry again.
"Failing once doesn't mean you fail at everything,"
said Shan.
"I want to be a forensic doctor, Shan. I've tried so
hard, but it just didn't work out,
" Ara said. "I know, Ara. But you can't give up. Dreams aren't
easy to achieve, but that doesn't mean they're
impossible." Shan said reassuringly to Ara,
"You are still young and talented, Ara. You still have
many opportunities to achieve your dreams. Don't let
this failure bring you down,
" Shan said as he took
Ara's hand and looked at her excitedly. Ara looked at
Shan with teary eyes.
"Thank you, Shan. Your words made me feel better,
"
Said Ara, who felt a little calm.
"That's what friends are for, Ara. To encourage and
help each other in times of trouble." Shan and Ara
continued to talk. Shan told his life story and how he
had also experienced failure in pursuing his dreams.
He reassures Ara that failure is part of the learning
process and makes her stronger.
"I don't know what to do anymore, Shan. I feel
confused and unsure about my future." Ara said.
"Take it easy, Ara. I'm sure you'll find your way. Most
importantly, never stop dreaming and trying." Shan
said. "And remember, I'm always there for you, Ara.
No matter what happens, we will always support each
other." Shan said with a smile.
Ara smiled and hugged Shan. She felt grateful to have
a best friend like Shan, who was always there for her.
"By the way, when is the announcement?" asked Ara.
"In four days. Come with me," replied Shan. "Okay, ready, boss," said Ara with a smile. After they
talked, they finally decided to go home because it was
late afternoon. Ara would also tell her parents about
this.
Four days later was the big day for Shan, the
announcement day. He was so scared to open it.
"Open it slowly. Say bismillah," said Ara.
"I'm a Christian," replied Shan.
"Yes, just read the prayer first," said Ara. Shan
opened the test result announcement letter with
trembling hands.
He read each line carefully, and his eyes lit up when
he saw the words 'NOT PASSED' written there. Shan
was silent for a moment.
"Ara, we have the same fate, hehe," said Shan.
"Shan. I'm with you.
" Ara said it emotionally. Shan
shed tears of happiness.
His dream to become a pilot was not fulfilled. He
knew that he still had a long way to go, but he was
confident that he could achieve it with determination
and hard work.
"Come on, I'll buy you some ice cream," said Ara.
"Let's hurry now," said Shan excitedly. Finally, they went to buy ice cream and, as usual, they
sat in the park to finish it. Shan and Ara both hadn't
passed, but they weren't going to give up.
There were many other paths they could take, and
they believed that there would be miracles in the
future. Since they were still young, they certainly had
a long way to go.
"We all have hopes, but the world has reality"
