Shan (26), a handsome and dashing young man,
walked into the Gramedia bookstore. He was looking
for books on music. Yes, he was back to pursuing his
dream of becoming a musician. Shan browsed the
bookshelves with great interest. His eyes fixed on the
various titles of books on musical notes.
Suddenly, Shan sees Ara (24), a beautiful and
intelligent girl, choosing a law book on another shelf.
Ara looked focused and serious, with her reading
glasses on her nose. Shan was silent for a moment,
stunned by Ara's beauty. He had never forgotten Ara,
his best friend since that meeting, who had always
supported him in pursuing his dreams.
Ara also noticed Shan's presence and smiled kindly.
"Shan? Long time no see. How are you?" asked Ara
with a smile that never changed.
"Fine, Ara. I just got back from the studio,
" said shan,
returned his smile.
"Wow, that's great. You're getting busier as a
musician, aren't you?" teased Ara.
"Yup, I have more things to learn, but I'm still happy
with my job,
" Shan said with a chuckle,
"I'm also happy to see you succeed as a musician. I'm
sure your mom would be proud of you,
" said Ara. Shan was silent for a moment, remembering his
mother, who died in an accident.
"Thank you, Ara. I hope so." Shan said with a smile.
"Oh, what book are you looking for?" asked Ara.
"I'm looking for a book about music. I want to
increase my knowledge about the world of musical
notes,
" Shan replied while looking for the book he
wanted.
"Wow, very interesting. I'm looking for a law book
myself,
" Said Ara.
"Oh, I see. You're getting busier to become a
prosecutor?" teased Shan.
"Yup, I have more material to learn, but I'm still
happy with my activities," Ara said.
"I'm sure you'll make a great prosecutor,
" Praise
Shan.
"Thank you, Shan,
" Ara said with a smile. Shan and
Ara smiled at each other. They were happy to see each
other again and talk.
"I'm going to the cashier,
" Shan said this when he
found the book he wanted.
"Shan, wait! I'll buy you coffee,
" Shouted Ara.
"Oh, really? Thank you so much, Ara,
" Shan said. Shan and Ara sat in the coffee shop inside the
Gramedia. They chatted about their respective lives.
Shan told her about his daily activities at the studio,
and Ara told him about her busy life as a prosecutor.
"I'm glad you can learn to be a prosecutor even if it's
not your dream, Ara." Shan said.
"I'm also glad you're back to pursuing your dreams,
Shan. I know you always wanted to obey your mom,
but that's not your capacity." Ara replied.
"Yes, she is my spirit." Shan said with a sad smile.
"Don't be sad, Shan. You will succeed as a musician.
I'm sure your mom is proud of you." Ara said,
encouraging Shan.
Shan nodded. He was touched by Ara's words.
"Thank you, Ara. You've always been my best friend.
We should be together forever,
" Shan replied.
"You're welcome, Shan. We should see each other
often."
"Oh yeah, tomorrow, let's have dinner at the newly
opened restaurant nearby,
" Invited Shan.
"Come on, pick me up," said Ara.
"Yes, princess,
" Shan said it with a wide smile that
revealed his dimples.
Shan looked at Ara's very sweet nature. He thought
about whether he could see that beautiful face forever. Shan seemed to fall in love with Ara, and without
Ara's knowledge, Shan converted to Islam. He started
learning about Islam after he met Ara. He also often
attended Islamic studies at the Istiqlal Mosque. He
intended to get serious with Ara. "Maybe tomorrow is
the right time," muttered Shan.
The anticipated night arrived, and before Shan sent a
message that he could not pick up Ara because of
sudden business, he invited Ara to meet directly at the
restaurant.
Room chat (Ara's POV)
Shan
Ara, I'm sorry you went alone first; later, we met
directly there. I suddenly have business.
It's okay, shan, I'll take a taxi.
Shan
Sorry for breaking the promise; this business is very
sudden.
It's okay, Shan. I can do it myself. Finish your
business first, then meet me. I'll wait for you.
The conversation ended because Shan's WhatsApp
immediately went inactive. Ara immediately got
ready to order a taxi and went to the restaurant.
Arriving there, Ara immediately ordered a table for
the two of them. After 40 minutes, Ara waited, but
Shan did not come. Because she felt very hungry, Ara ordered food. Ara repeatedly tried to contact Shan,
but his number was not active. She was confused
about why Shan had suddenly disappeared.
"Did he break his promise?" Ara thought.
After 2 hours of waiting without any news, the waiter
came to Ara's table.
"Sorry, ma'am, our restaurant will be closing soon"
said the waiter carefully.
"Oh, yes, I'm sorry; Please give me the bill" said Ara
kindly.
"Yes, ma'am. Just a moment," said the waiter.
Ara immediately finished her payment and ordered a
taxi to go home. Along the way, Ara still tried to
contact Shan, but to no avail. Ara was frustrated by
this. She was afraid that something had happened to
Shan. She also felt disappointed because it seemed
like Shan had underestimated the promise they had
made. Since that night, Shan had disappeared without
news or a trace.
"Tonight, I send all my best wishes to you. May the
world take care of you, wherever you are. I love you,
and I always will," said Ara as tears slowly fell from
her eyes.
Also, forever
Even then, forever was nothing more than a word.
Yes, Ara seemed to be in love with Shan; she had hopes for Shan, but Shan didn't seem to feel that way.
"Looks like I can realize my own dream" Ara
murmured.
"We shouldn't put our hopes on someone; basically,
people come and go, and maybe my time with him is
over."
