EVER SINCE ELLE BECAME A PROBATIONARY AGENT TOO, Kay had been tip-toeing around the walls of the BAU. In her first week in the double-slotted position, Kay had only casually uttered three words to anyone besides Hotch: "We're not friends."

These words, of course, were said to Elle, who was constantly attempting to be her friend. Kay wasn't here to make friends, and she made sure to set clear boundaries between her work life and personal life; no friends of hers were to come from the BAU. Kay lifted herself from her makeshift desk, which consisted of only enough space for her to make a pinky promise. "To think outside the box," she answered, watching as a rather familiar probationary agent descended from the stairs.

"Question for you," Elle started before approaching the triad of agents, at which point she leaned against Kay's desk. "Who wants to come to my nephew's birthday party?"

"What?" Derek scoffed.

Elle nodded, crossing her arms as her eyes shifted between Derek and Spencer before finally moving to Kay and landing on her. "Yeah. I hate my sister, but her son's the best. And I was just wondering if one of you—"
