this chapter is jam-packed with angst so please, bare with me! i do recommend reading this chapter because it contains some important sentiments on the current three main characters' (Kay, Aaron, and Elle) sides, but if you can't, i fully understand. if you don't read it, however, there may be details in upcoming chapters that might confuse you!

DENIAL was one of the most prevalent things in Kay's life. It had been ever since she was a child, and Billy Matthews professed his undying love to her seconds after chasing away the little girl opposite Kay, the one she almost lost her first kiss to. Of course, Kay rejected the young boy's advances and went searching for the girl, convincing herself that he was simply saying that to tease her, but it was still one of the earliest examples of denial in her life.

Believing Elle Greenaway was fine quickly became the biggest example, even before Billy Matthews' love confession, when people had to bring up the inklings of disavowal in Kay's lifetime. Even this given moment, they could bring up in reference to her denial, because all Kay was doing was staring at the speckled white bathroom door with an abundance of uncertainty settling silently in the back of her mind.
