Why was Parker asking what time I went to lunch? I shook my head and sat my phone down and returned to work. I was usually a cashier at Rollo's Music Shop, but right now, my job was to sort the CDs in alphabet order. Same thing with the records. This was an every day thing. Everyday, the CDs and records would become disorganized after customers rifled through them in hopes of finding what they were looking for. And every day, it was up to me to fix it. I bit my tongue and ignored my blood boiling as I sorted the Autumn Skies CDs into a row. They released their second album recently, and it was a major hit with young girls. I let out a groan as, right on cue, an Autumn Skies song started playing on the store's radio:
"My girlfriend's bitchin' 'cause I always sleep in She's always screamin' when she's callin' her friend She's kinda hot though Yeah, she's kinda hot though..."*
I couldn't help but cringe. These lyrics were horrible. Teenage girls were really listening to this hot garbage? But as horrible as the lyrics were, I would be lying if I said that I wasn't feeling humbled as well. These guys made it big, and they weren't afraid to act slimy and throw people under the bus to get to where they were. Arin and Brianna broke up after a year, and to this day, fans still obsessed over her because of her looks. There were fans that full on cried, with tears and everything, when they broke up.
Mason, the Autumn Skies guitarist, was dating some model/"talent manager" named Carly Rose. And I use the term "talent manager" loosely because Carly is known to use her clients, people who hope to make it in Hollywood, and she sets them up with famous people. They date for about a year, try to get her clients names out there, and then they break up. There's also rumors that Carly was the one to set Brianna us with Arin, and Carly herself is using this tactic with Mason. I wonder if she knew just how hard Mason has fallen for her. That is, if it isn't an act.
"One day, Winter. One day, you and Wyatt will make it. You will overtake Autumn Skies. Your music will be better. And you will have millions of fans that adore you." I told myself in my head. But hopefully, our fans won't be as batshit crazy as the Autumn Skies ones.
"Concert tonight, Winnie?" The store manager, Lyle asked me. I rolled my eyes as I heard the nickname he gave me. But I didn't mind it.
"Huh? Oh, yeah. Concert tonight. You gonna make it?" I asked him.
"You can bet your ass I will." He responded.
I grinned and returned my attention to the CDs. I was excited about our concert tonight. It's our first concert since Wyatt and I were arrested during Spring Break. The band worked tirelessly to promote our concert on social media and we hung posters anywhere that we were allowed to. Hopefully, the turn out will be good, like how it was last time.
My actions became auto piloted as I organized the rest of the CDs and records. I asked customers if they needed help, I would help them find a certain CD or music instrument, and pretty soon, it was almost time for lunch. At 12:40, the door to the store swung open and I was greeted by the familiar, fiery red hair and blue eyes.
