"Vanilla? That's a strange choice!"
Vibinn Noothan ordered two butterscotch and one vanilla ice-cream at the college ice-cream parlor. They sat outside for a chit-chat. Muskan was still in shock while Anjali remained stern, as if she'd been told the hardest truth.
"Why do you like vanilla though? You didn't give a proper justification!" Noothan asked Anjali.
"Vanilla! I like its emptiness, its blankness. It's similar to life; life is all about what you make of it, just like how you could enjoy this vanilla ice-cream!" Anjali said, adding a touch of dry fruits to it.
"Philosophy using an ice-cream! I've seen this before." Noothan smiled and glanced at the ice-cream fairy Muscotch, who appeared worried and shocked.
"You alright, Muscotch?" asked Noothan, to which Muskan acknowledged with a timid smile.
Noothan's attention was drawn to the arrival of his rival.
"So the ChampUno has a ChampUni, or what do you call it, Mrs. Aryarjun?" Noothan said with a fire of hatred in his eyes, looking at Aryarjun.
Anjali looked back to see who it was before realizing that not only Noothan's rival, but also her rival, had arrived. "Divyashree? No way! She said she wasn't his girlfriend, and now she's with him at an ice-cream parlor?" Anjali whispered to herself.
"Mr. Aryarjun!! ChampUno!" shouted Noothan, waving at Aryarjun, who smiled and approached him with Divyashree. Muskan's shock further electrified as she had never seen this extroverted side of Noothan. They both neared their table and stood there.
"Anjali! What a surprise! Are you here with your friends? I thought you never had boy friends?" asked Divya, teasing Anjali.
"They are my classmates! Meet Muskan and Noothan!" Anjali introduced, with Divya greeting them.
"Anjali, you never told me Noothan was your classmate?" Aryarjun whispered in her ear, "Have you told him about it?"
"No," replied Anjali.
"So I'm here having ice-cream with my classmate who is friends with my rival and also his girlfriend, who have come for an ice-cream date! Brilliant!" Noothan said with a taunting smile.
"First, I'm not your rival, Noothan, I'm your captain! Second, we are not here for an ice-cream date," responded Aryarjun with authority.
"So by any chance are you saying that she is actually your girlfriend?" asked a puzzled Noothan.
"Yes, she is my girlfriend, and we were headed to the canteen," replied Aryarjun, with a sense of pride and possessiveness.
Anjali was shattered, her soul crushed by her crush. Divyashree had been telling the truth all along. Anjali went blank, her mind suddenly stopped functioning. Her heart and dream were broken. She looked at Divyashree who was sharing a look of guilt and sympathy.
"That's great Aryarjun! Now you continue heading!" replied Noothan, filled with ego.
"I wanted to convey my message to you tomorrow, I thought today was not the day, but as we have met, I think it is the right time. Take this..." Aryarjun handed over a file from his bag. "This is your medical test record. Go through this after reaching home and you will know the main reason why you were kept out of the selections," Aryarjun said, leaving with Divyashree, his eyes full of regret.
