Intro: What if Ian and Mickey never knew they were into each other until late in life?? They were both married to women and had kids until one day it all changed.
------------------------------------------
Ian and Mickey were always one side next to another. You can never see them without each other. They first met all those years ago, back when Ian was 15 and Mickey was 17, after Mickey threatened to kill Ian when he thought he messed around with Mickey's younger sister, Mandy. Since then, the two have created an unbreakable connection between them.
They were best friends; they had each other for the good and the bad. Even when they had kids and got married, they were there for each other, helping in any way the other needed.
Even their wives, Svetlana Milkovich and Mandy Gallagher-Milkovich, knew about their shared bond and always insisted on spending time together, knowing that if they didn't, their boys would miss each other. Don't get them wrong; their marriage life was successful and blooming with the years going by. But Ian's and Mickey's bond is something they couldn't ignore. That's how their kids even became best friends; from the amount of time they saw each other and talked with each other, they were basically sisters.
Or, as little Olivia Gallagher-Milkovich said, my 'daddy's best friend'.
Yet whoever looks at them out there on the street might mistake them for a little happy family. Ian and Mickey would always laugh at that description of 'little happy family'; sure, they were happy and all, but family? maybe..
Well, it was all nice and all until it wasn't.
A knock came through the Milkovich household as Mandy walked inside with Olivia happily smiling at the thought of seeing Emma, her best friend, and Ian behind the two girls.
"Hey guys, come on in," Mickey said, opening the door for the two girls.
"Uncle Mickey! Uncle Mickey!" Emma called, jumping into her uncle's embrace and dropping all of her stuff on the floor for her mom to hold.
"Hey Ollie, how are you, girl?" He asked, hugging her close and kissing her cheek as she hugged him back.
"Olivia! Olivia!" Emma called, running towards her best friend and hugging her close.
"Hey Em!" Olivia called, smiling at the girl who moved her towards her room to play with her new Barbie doll that her dad got her for Christmas.
"You boys think you can handle these two?" Svetlanna asked, stepping towards the door.
"Come on, they would be passed out around nine from adrenaline," Ian replied as he hugged Mickey, who nodded at the two.
"Alright, we will be back late; try not to destroy the house." Svetlan said, kissing Mickey's cheek as Mandy did the same with Ian as the two left.
"Die hard?" Ian asked, tossing himself against the couch and putting his legs over the coffee table.
"Sure, want some beer?" Mickey asked as Ian nodded, grasping the remote control in his hand and searching for their movie. Mickey returned to the living room with two beers and some chips before sitting down next to Ian.
Around 10 p.m., you could hear snores all around the house. The two girls passed out together in Emma's bed while Mickey and Ian were on the couch as the TV played in the background. Suddenly, both of the boys' phones started to ring, struggling to wake up from their much-needed sleep.
"What?" Mickey asked as he fell down from the couch, not noticing Ian's legs still lying over the coffee table.
"That's our phone, dummy," Ian replied as he saw Mickey on the floor.
"Fuck you, hand mine over, please," he requested as Ian gave Mickey his as they took the call.
"Hello," they both said in unity.
"Hello, am I talking with Mickey Mlkovich?" The person on Mickey's phone asked, and the person on Ian's phone did the same.
"Yes, this is he," they replied.
"I'm sorry to inform you that your wife has had a car accident with her friend, and they are both in the ER. Would you be able to come here?"
"Yes. I'd be here as soon as possible, thank you," they replied as they hung up the call, tending to look over at each other with tears streaming down their faces.
"What are we supposed to tell the girls?" Mickey asked as he tried to block the tears in his eyes.
"I don't know, but we need to go, Mick; we can take them with us," Ian said, and Mickey just nodded, knowing that if he said another word, he would break down in tears. That's how they found themselves in the back of a cub, with Mickey squeezed in the backseat between the two sleepy girls and Ian in the front seat, giving directions to the driver. They paid for the ride before they carried the girls inside and moved towards the reception.
"Hey, you called both of us; our wives are here." Ian said to the nurse
"What are their names?" She asked in sympathy.
"Mandy Gallagher-Milkovich and Svetlana Milkovich were both involved in a car accident."
"I'll need to see some ID from both of you and the girls."
"This is mine and Mandy's kid, Olivia Gallgher-Milkovich; she is six years old," Ian explained, and the nurse nodded, smiling at the little girl as she checked Ian's ID before letting him in.
"Her name is Emma Milkovich; she is also six years old; she is mine and Svetlanna's kid," Mickey said, handing the nurse his ID as she smiled at the girl whale, approving them both inside.
"A doctor should be out shortly to discuss both of your wives' conditions," she said as they nodded, moving towards the family area and helping both of the girls sit down as their heads rested against their dad's shoulder.
"Family of Svetelan and Mandy?" a doctor asked as they both raised their hands as the doctor moved up close to them.
"Sorry, they both fell asleep." Ian said apologetically as the doctor nodded.
"So, both Mandy and Svetlana were rolled into the ER with serious injuries after their car was flipped over on the highway," the doctor said as Mickey felt himself almost falling from the thought of possibly losing them both as Ian moved to hold him in place.
"They are both currently awake but won't have much time to stay."
"Where are they?" Mickey asked, wiping with his shirt the tears.
"I'll get the nurse to show you, but the kids cannot go inside."
"You're shitting me up, right? You tell us that our wives are almost dying, and you don't want us to let our kids see their moms for the last time?! The fuck is your problem? You know what? Don't answer me! We are going inside with them, and don't you dare call secrecy; you don't want to mess with the Milkovichs." Mickey yelled, taking Emma in his hands before moving to find Svetlanna.
"Svetlana Mandy!'' The four of them called as they heard a barely whisper from inside some room as they ran inside with the girls in their hands, which caused them to wake up.
"Mommy?" Olivia called, looking over at Mandy with tears in her eyes.
"Mommy?" Emma then asked, looking at Svetlana before both of the dads put the girls next to their moms.
"Mommy, are you okay?" they asked in unity as the moms shook their hands.
"No, huns, me and Mandy were in a car accident that hurt us badly, but before we leave to rest in peace, we wanted to say goodbye to you."
"Leaving?" Olivia asked.
"Your dad and Mickey will explain it to you later, but right now we want a big family hug. Can we do it?" Mandy asked as the girls nodded, and each family hugged together.
"You two are going to have the best lives with Ian and Mickey. We both love you so much and wish we could stay, but it's our time," Svetalana said, choking on her tears as Emma hugged her tightly.
"Mickey, Ian, we are going to say it once and for all; we love you both so much, but we know you love each other more; we are not hurt at all, and we even discussed it and want you two to move together; you are all going to be alright with each other." Mandy said as Ian took a deep breath before moving to kiss Mandy's forehead.
"Thank you," Mickey whispered to Svetlana as she nodded, kissing his cheek.
"You're an amazing dad, Mikhailo."
"You too, Svet," Mickey smiled.
"Take care of Emma, would you?" She asked last before he nodded, and she closed her eyes for good, knowing that her little girl would be in good hands.
"Mommmmy!!!" Emma started to scream but was quickly hushed down by Mickey hugging her tight as they both cried.
"Mandy, tell her we are going to miss both of you," Mickey asked Mandy as she nodded.
"I love you all," Mandy said before she closed her eyes and rested.
"No Momm! come back!" Olivia called, jumping towards her mom's embrace, but was quickly pulled away by Ian as he hugged her tightly before bringing the four of them for a family hug.
Nurses and doctors quickly flew into the room, helping the little family out of the room and to the family room before sending them away.
The funeral was set for the next day, as both of the girls called for their moms to come back. Ian and Mickey looked at each other, knowing that from now on they would have to do everything in their power to raise the two girls to be the best versions of themselves, as they promised their moms.
After the funeral, they made up their minds and decided that it's time for a fresh start for them all and moved to New York per the girl's request; it was the last they could do for them after the long stay at DisneyLand. They quickly found a home that was fit for their budget. But the down side of it was that it was a two-room apartment, which meant that the girl's shared their room and the boy's shared their room after they calmed down; they were too old to sleep in the same room as their dad. So unfortunately, Ian and Mickey shared a room; they have done it before, so they didn't really mind, but after learning that their room doesn't fit two beds, they settled for a kid-sized bed for the both of them.
If someone looked at them from outside, they would think that they were a little four-person family with two dads and two girls. Yet, when they expressed their situation to people, they would always say how much they would fit as a couple, as they have the 'hots' for each other.
They never saw this.
They aren't gay. Just two best friends end up raising two girls after their wives pass away.
It was normal, wasn't it?
Being there for your best friend and having their back no matter what, right?
It doesn't make them gay; it just makes them good people.
They even settled for this routine with their jobs. Ian contended with his EMT gig while Mickey found himself as a machine, which wasn't surprising for anyone. He is a southside boy; that's what he knows best. And so is Ian. They managed to fit their schedule so that there was always one of them at home with the girls, either taking care of them or getting them ready for school. By now, the girl's turned 11 and hit the 5th grade. They were pretty shocked that their moms wouldn't make it to their graduation, but all of their family was there, so they didn't mind; they got as much love as the next person from the Gallagher's and the Milkovich's.
"Do you believe they just finished 5th grade? It's like yesterday they just started kindergarten," Ian asked as he drove them back home from the ceremony as both of the girls were passed out, sleeping in the back seat.
"Yeah, tell me about it. I feel old."
"You're not that old, Mick." Ian replied, smiling at Mickey. "You don't have much gray hair," he added as Mickey smacked him.
"Let's see what happened when you turned 30 and how your red ass would handle being a rusty color."
"There is always hair color in hand I can use," Ian joked as Mickey rolled his eyes as Ian pulled to the driveway.
"Who wakes them up?" Mickey asked and turned to look over the girls who were cuddling in the backseat.
"Whoever is older?" Ina jocked, earning another smack from Mickey.
"If you keep going like that, man, you will sleep on the floor tonight." Ian challenged.
"Try me, bitch." Mickey smirked
"Grab your kid asshole, let's get them to bed; it's pretty late, and we gotta drop them at the school at 5 for the camp."
"Shit, that's tomorrow?" Mickey asked with his nose narrowed in shock.
"I'll get Emma beg ready. You get the kids."
"Fine," he sighed as he took a back seat to grab both of the girls inside the house as Ian handled the left-over bags in the back seat as he spotted Olivia's dream-to-be card that he didn't see. He opened it and quickly read through it out of curiosity.
