Ayansh ~

Me and Trisha, sat beside each other as the priest chanted mantras. My eyes fixed on her. My breaths were erratic and my heart was racing, as time passed and as she was about to become mine forever the patience in me was lost. Seeing her dressed in the beautiful red lehenga for me made my heart full of happiness. The priest said "Ab Ladka, ladki ki maang me sindoor bharega" I picked up the small vase of red powder, my chest filled with emotions. I looked at her with a small smile dancing on my lips and suddenly she stood up. I was confused and disheartened with her reaction. She looked at me with narrow eyes and said, "Mai tumse shaadi nahi karungi Ayansh"

(Now the guy will fill the partition of the girl with sindoor)
(I will not marry you Ayansh)

I was confused, weird feelings surrounded me. Tears gathered in my eyes, why was she saying that? What happened suddenly? I screamed in anger, in confusion and all the patience was lost. Maa called me again and again, her words were just a distinct murmur. Suddenly I felt some water on my face. Was it raining? "Ayansh uth jaa kitna soyega" I wiped the water off my face and looked around. So, it was a dream.

(Wake up, Ayansh. How much more are you going to sleep?)

My dreams have been getting weirder every time. Why am I getting dreams related to her anyway? She was just a game for me. A challenge I wanted to win. I could never fall for her. IT WAS BETTER TO DIE THAN TO FALL FOR HER.

After getting ready, I walked out of my room and the most irritating cousin of mine was sitting in the hall, sipping at the coffee. I remember once I offered her tea instead of coffee and she said "Ayansh, you have been living with me for 16 years now and you still don't know that I am allergic to tea. Or you are desperately offering me the tea to get me sick". I didn't offer her tea to get her sick but she had this weird habit of creating drama out of everything. I still remember how much my parents scolded me just because I said to her, "Ho ja bimar accha hai kuch din shanti rahegi ghar me."

(The house will be in peace at least if you get sick)

Back then we lived in a joint family, me, my parents, chachu, chachi and my two cousins Riddhi and Akash. After a few controversies, we left the house and started living separately. I was sad at that time due to the lack of siblings, I always saw my cousins as my own sister and brother. I grew up with them, we were each other's partners in crime and we always backed each other up when they needed it. And we were the ones to get each other scolded by our parents.

"Are bhai, ladkiyo se zyada time to aap lagate ho taiyaar hone me?" she said.

(You take more time than girls to get ready)

"Riddhi ji aap yaha kaise?" I said with sarcasm dripping from my voice. She has been living in Delhi for the past 5 years. Seeing her here suddenly shocked me in a good way.

(What are you doing here Riddhi?)

"You are getting married, Ayansh. How come I would not be here?" She said while taking a sip.

"Haan mereko pareshan karne ka mauka kidhar chodhegi tu" I sat beside her.

(How will you miss a chance to trouble me?)

She kept the empty cup on the coffee table and leaned her head on my shoulders. "I missed you bhai".

"But I didn't" I lied. She stood up and fisted my biceps.

As she noticed that her powerless punches didn't have any effect on me, she took her shoes out and ran after me. "Are tum dono bhai behen ka fir chalu hogya" Maa said.

(You both, brother and sister started again)

I ran for my life, I hid behind Maa and whispered in her ears, "Maa mujhe is paagal aurat se bachao".
