PSA: They're all the same grade in this
~Minho and Jisung have long since been competitive academic rivals. They are never not competing for the top scores and best grades. So it was a shock to both of them when they found themselves making out in an empty classroom.
..
Recently, Middleton High had their mid-term exams. All students were impatiently awaiting their scores, and Jisung and his friends were no different. He sat at lunch, nervous to check his grades. Everyone else had already checked theirs, but Jisung was waiting for Minho. He couldn't wait to wipe that stupid smirk off his face and score higher than him.
He anxiously chewed his apple and peanut butter sandwich, something Minho always teased him for eating.
"Dude, just check your score. He's probably talking to a teacher," Chan said with a roll of his eyes. Jeongin smiled and hit his chest playfully.
"Let him wait for his boyfriend, Channie." Jisung shook awake.
"N-No, h-he's not-"
"Dude, you're the only two in our group that aren't together, and you always come on the triple dates with us. The sexual tension is crazy," Felix said, cutting him off. Changbin laughed at his boyfriend's joke.
Minho strutted in, smirking like always. He sat next to Jisung. "Hey. Ready to lose?"
Jisung rolled his eyes. "I'm no loser. I know I've topped you in Writing, Reading and Science."
Minho chuckled. "The easiest subjects?" Jisung shoved him.
The others watched this whole exchange. "Yeah, you're totally not in love with him, Ji," Seungmin muttered. Hyunjin caught it, since Seungmin's head was on his chest, and burst out laughing.
"Just reveal your scores, Jesus!" Chan yelled. The two pulled out their phones.
"Starting with Geography. 98%!" Jisung boasted proudly.
"Shit! I only got a...a 99%!" Minho smirked again. Jisung shoved him. Again.
"What about science?"
"95, you?"
"Ha! 97!"
"Reading? I'm a 98."
"Fuck. 97."
"Loser. Now for maths."
Jisung was dreading his maths score. He knew Minho was gonna win this one. "A 97."
"Hey, that's really good!" Chan congratulated. Minho scoffed.
"Compare that to my 100."
"Ugh!" Minho laughed at his annoyance. "Well I've got you with Writing!"
Minho shrugged. "Probably do. I didn't do too well. Just a 92."
Now it was Jisung's turn to smirk. He clicked the button marked "Writing Mid-term Exam Grade". His face fell when the screen opened.
Felix scrunched his eyebrows. "Hyung, you okay?"
Jisung shook his head. Writing was supposed to be his best subject. He's never got less than an A on any writing assignment.
"I failed." Minho laughed.
"Yeah sure, nice acting, Han. What's your actual score?" Tears welled in Jisung's eyes. He dropped his phone and ran out of the cafeteria. Minho furrowed his eyebrows and grabbed the phone, looking at the score.
Writing Mid-Term Exam Grade:
Han Jisung
2023-2024
54%His face dropped. "He actually failed it. It's a 54."
Felix gasped. "I should go after him, he's probably crying-"
"No!" Everyone froze and stared at Minho. "Uh...I-I mean I'll go."
Felix was about to protest, when Hyunjin raised his eyebrows aggressively. He caught on and smiled a little before composing himself. "Ok hyung. Go."
Minho got up and ran out. He burst into the hall, nearly bumping into some year nines. He ran down the corridor, trying to see if Jisung was in one of the empty classrooms. Finally, he heard sniffling and quiet cries from one of the rooms, and burst in.
There he was, crying on the floor, head in his knees. Minho rushed over and pulled him in his arms.
"Shh, Jisungie. It was probably a mistake. It's just a grade, it's okay," he whispered. Jisung grabbed his shirt and sobbed.
"You don't get it, they'll kill me, Minho, I'm dead," he said through his cries.
"As long as I'm here, no one can hurt you, Jisung," Minho heard himself say. Jisung pulled away from the hug and looked up at him. He rubbed his face and sniffled.
"Do you...do you really mean that?" Minho nodded. He looked at Jisung, realizing something.
He didn't hate Jisung.
He didn't even dislike him.
He loved play fighting with him, competing in school, meeting up when the others wanted to go on triple dates.
"I love you, Jisung." Jisung gasped.
"Minho, I-"
"I-I'm sorry, that was random and blunt, I-I meant-"
He was cut off by Jisung's lips on his. His eyes widened in surprise before fluttering shut, and his hands found themselves around Jisung's waist as Jisung snaked his arms around Minho's neck. Minho fell back, letting go and catching himself on the floor, never once breaking the kiss. Once he was seated on the floor, he felt Jisung pull away, panting.
Jisung turned red when he realized he was currently on top of Minho. "I-I'm so sorry, I-"
"Shut up," Minho murmured before pulling him back in.
