*Outside of the Stilettos Strip Club*
Matt swiftly walked out of the shady building and rushed over to an unmarked van parked just around the corner. He looked around, making sure no one was watching, before opening the back doors and climbing in. The blond was instantly greeted by a pair of familiar small arms wrapping him in a tight hug.
"Matty!" Ana gasped in relief, burying her face into his shoulder.
Antonio and Hank both pulled a pair of headphones away from their ears, also looking slightly relieved. Well, the former was at least. The latter was just as stone faced as always.
"What happened?" The Detective demanded. "We lost you."
The Lieutenant returned the hug while simultaneously glaring at the men over the brunette's shoulder.
"Your wire's in the toilet. You're welcome to dig it out." He hissed back, sounding a bit out of breath as he pulled back a bit to grab something out of his pocket. "Something didn't feel right, so I ducked into the bathroom and flushed it. Good thing. They frisked me." Matt held up the fake phone for them to see before chucking it onto the nearby counter. "Opened up the back. It works."
"Damn." Antonio swore while scratching at his stubble.
"They're worried about ATF." The blond recalled.
"ATF?" Ana frowned, voice slightly muffled by his suit jacket.
"I'll look into it." The Detective offered before his Sergeant could even say a word.
"They talked about cash for construction. Didn't say a word to me about anything illegal." The Lieutenant muttered, actually sounding a little pissed off by it.
"Casey, this is a process. These guys are smart." Hank pointed out.
"We regroup, hit them again." Antonio nodded in agreement. "Just got to have patience."
Ana suddenly pulled back to look at her best friend with her usual gentle gaze.
"You did good, Matty." She smiled, softly.
The blond simply tugged her back in for another embrace, one hand reaching up to cup the back of her head. The brunette, knowing him as well as she did, could clearly tell that he was still very rattled about the whole thing so she just squeezed him tighter and let him take all the comfort he needed.
*At Firehouse 51: In the Restroom: Sometime During Next Shift*
Kelly was at a sink, washing his face, while Ana stood at the adjacent one and cleaned her hands. There was a tense silence filing the space between the couple instead of their usual comfortable air of warmth. The brunette desperately wanted to break it but she just didn't know how. Luckily, or maybe unluckily given the look on his face, Matt appeared around the corner and did it for her.
"What are you gonna do about Rice?" He demanded, shooting his best friend a quick warning look.
The Captain knew the blond wanted her to leave in case things got ugly but she just couldn't bring herself to leave Kelly's side.
"What's that mean?" The Squad Lieutenant muttered, not looking at the other man.
"No one's gunning for him here." His Truck Counterpart assured. "And if Otis thinks he's ducking-"
"He wasn't ducking." Kelly snapped, head whipping around to face him with a heated glare.
Ana stepped back just slightly and started wringing her hands together in an attempt to distract herself.
