With the news of Viserys passing, Alicent tells her father that his last wish was that Aegon was to become king. In the council meeting, he tells the others. A few were surprised while some didn't mind. All the men started to fight about the decision of making Aegon king.

Lord Beesbury stands on having Rhaenyra take the throne and accuses someone of lying and killing the King. Ser Criston Cole has enough of him slamming him to sit down, cracking his skull on the ball on the table killing him.

Everyone then talks about how Rhaenyra will act so they suggest killing her and any challengers. "What about Celeste?" Alicent asks her father.

"What about her? She'll kneel to Aegon once it's done."

"You would kill someone that has been a mother to her, kill her father, and her cousins that are like brothers to her. And expect her to kneel to Aegon?" Alicent repeats what he said so he'll get it.

"If not she would be killed as well."

Her jaw drops, "She has two daughters that are only two. You would take their mother away from them?" She asks, "Your grandson would have your head afterwards."

"I do not care for his stupid love for that girl or their bastards!" He snaps and everyone at the table now knew the truth. "Once he is king and realizes people want him... That's what he's going to love and want more of." He adds, "Lord Commander Westerling... take your knights to Dragonstone. Be quick and be clean." Otto tells him so he pulls off his cloak placing it on the table.

"I am Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. I recognize no authority but the King's. And until there is one... I have no place here." He leaves the room.

When Aegon hears the news about his father passing and knowing how his Grandfather is he runs away from the Red Keep. He planned to hide away until he could get to Dragonston. Sadly Arryk and Erryk find him in the Grand Sept, only to be ambushed by Aemond and Criston outside.

Erryk, refuses to help put Aegon on the throne, by fleeing the scene, while Criston overpowers Arryk in a duel. Aegon takes the chance to run again but is stopped by his brother. "I was hopping you would disappear."

"What do you think I was trying to do!" Aegon tells him.

"Now they're going to make you king." Aemond pulls him up holding him from running away.

"Let me go! Brother! Let me go! I have no wish to rule! No taste for duty! I'm not suited." Aegon tries to get free.

"You'll get no argument from me."

"You let me go, and I'll go to Celeste and the twins. The four of us can go away and never to be found." He begs his brother.

"The Queen awaits." Criston shows up and Aegon knew he was screwed.

The next day, Otto was to have all the townsfolk to be there to watch Aegon be crowned King. As he rode with his mother, he was dreading the whole thing. She ends up talking first by telling him to at least look grateful since he was lucky to become king.

"My father never wanted this." He tells her knowing the truth.

"That's not true."

"He had 20 years to name me heir and never did. He upheld Rhaenyra's claim and I was fine with that." He looks over at his mother, "Only you and the Hand weren't."

"He changed his mind." Alicent stands in what she heard Viserys say while he was out of it.

Aegon starts to laugh, "No. He could have, but he never did. I don't believe you that he said it." He looks away from her.

"With his final breath, he whispered to me that you should take his place on the throne." She tells him so he laughs more.

"Yet the last thing he told me is not to lose Celeste again and be happy with them. If he wanted me to be King...that's a straight way to losing her forever."

"He said you were the Prince that was promised. You'll reunite the realms." She adds but he shakes his head.

"You'll never convince me, mother." He tells her so she shows him the dagger, "I do not want it." He looks away ignoring her.

"Listen to me, Aegon. Your grandfather, the Hand, will try to impress on you that Rhaenyra should be put to the sword. You must reject this counsel. We must not rule with cruelty and callousness-,"

"Do you love me?" He cuts her off.

"You imbecile." Was all she says looking at him.

He sighs turning his head away disappointed she didn't say she did though. He knew only one person loved him and that was Celeste. She had told him before leaving for Dragonstone the other night.

"I'm sorry about Aemond." He holds her hand before she gets in the carriage with everyone else.

"Don't apologize for his actions. You did nothing wrong." She squeezes his while looking g down at their hands.

"I don't want you to leave. I don't want to wait years to see you and the girls again. I want to see them grow. I missed them being born. I should've been there with you." He takes her other hand as well.

"I love you Aegon. I truly do. I always have but things happen and make it impossible for us to be happy together." She kisses his cheek, "I will always love you. And don't forget that. Even when I try to say I don't." She leaves him.

When they arrive and Aegon waits to walk through the crowd, he wish he could run away again and succeed this time. Slowly he makes his way through all the people thinking everything over. About what he wants in life. About what his father told him.

Once he was announced King, with Aegon the Conqueror crown, he faces the crowd who start to cheer for him. He just stands there scanning the crowd without warning, the floor of the Dragonpit erupts, and the cheering of the crowd turns to screams of panic as a colossal dragon claws its way out from the caverns below the main hall, flattening panicking spectators with its tail and talons.

Terrified smallfolk try to escape, either climbing to the Dragonpit's upper floors, or streaming through the gates as the gold cloaks desperately try to close them, though some are crushed by fallen debris sent flying by the rampaging dragon or swept into the hole created by its escape.

As the Greens on the dais watch in incredulous horror, the dragon emerges from the pall of ash and debris thrown up by its escape, revealing itself to be Meleys, with Rhaenys sat astride her back, clad in an ornate suit of dragonrider armor. A panicking Otto bellows at the gold cloaks to open the Dragonpit's doors to allow escape, but his commands go unheard over the chaos as Rhaenys directs Meleys towards the dais.

Alicent orders Criston to get Helaena to safety before placing herself between Aegon and the snarling dragon. Despite having the entire Green faction at her mercy, whether out of respect for Alicent's love for her son or refusal to make herself a kinslayer, Rhaenys withholds giving Meleys the command to kill.

Rhaenys gives Alicent a cold look, signaling her rejection of Alicent's request for her support, before directing Meleys towards the Dragonpit's closing doors, the dragon furling her wings about her and gliding through the doors with inches to spare, before flying off.
