                         ᝰ.       beneath the light

                  "'cause your heart's too trusting"

the moon hung low in the night sky. today was the blue moon festival, a rare and magical event that only occurred once every few years. the entire campus was alive with excitement, students bustling around in their finest attire, the air filled with laughter and music. jamil viper stood by the entrance to the ballroom, his usual cool demeanor hiding a mix of anticipation and unease. the festival was a time for celebration, but for him, it was also a reminder of his responsibilities.

as the vice housewarden of scarabia, he had ensured everything was in order, but tonight, his mind was someone especially. a voice broke through his thoughts. "oh, hey jamil." turning around, hamil's eyes met with those of alaric "you look like you're ready for a someone to attack" alaric spoke, adjusting the collar of his dark blue blazer. "do you like the decorations? the chandeliers were the idea of the diasomnia housewarden. are you waiting for someone?" asked the white haired boy as he looked around, jamil shook his head, making alaric smile "so let's enjoy the festival together!"

jamil couldn't help a small smile. "i suppose it's okay."  alaric was the first to start walking deeper into the ballroom "i want to eat the dishes you prepared." what the boy from heartslabyul said made jamil's heart start to beat faster and faster. as they made their way through the crowd, jamil couldn't help but notice how the soft blue light of the moon enhanced everything around them.

the decorations glittered with an otherworldly glow, and the students looked almost ethereal in their elegant attire. it was a night of enchantment, and for once, jamil allowed himself to be swept up in it. the ballroom was a sight to behold. crystal chandeliers reflected the blue moonlight, casting shimmering patterns across the walls. tables were laden with delicacies from all the dorms, and the aroma of exotic spices filled the air.

the music that started playing caught alaric's attention. his parents told him that during the festival dancing with someone would bring good luck for five years "jamil, do you want to dance with me?" asked the boy with white hair, surprising jamil. dancing wasn't really something that he wanted to do today, but the look in alaric's red eyes was hard to resist. "alright, but only one dance."

as they stepped onto the dance floor, the music shifted to a slow, melodic tune. alaric took jamil's hand, leading him with surprising grace. they moved together, the world around them fading into a blur of blue light and soft music. jamil found himself relaxing, his worries melting away with each step. alaric's presence was calming, a steady anchor amidst the night's enchantment. as they danced, jamil couldn't help but feel a warmth in his chest, a quiet joy he rarely allowed himself to experience.

"you know. i admire how you are handling everything with such composure, and it's nice to see you enjoying yourself too." alaric said as he looked into jamil's brown eyes. jamil's gaze softened. "having you around makes it easier.". alaric's smile was warm, his grip on jamil's hand tightening slightly. "i'm glad to hear that. because for me, being here with you is the best part of this festival and has been for the past month." alaric said as he turned his gaze to the ground

the dance ended, but the connection between them lingered, a silent understanding passing between their eyes. as the night continued, they explored the various attractions of the festival together – from the intricate ice sculptures to the dazzling light shows.

AS MIDNIGHT APPROACHED, THE STUDENTS GATHERED ON THE BALCONY. the blue moon was at its zenith, and the headmage had promised a magical display unlike any other. jamil and alaric found a spot near the front, their shoulders brushing as they stood side by side. in a few the sky exploded into a symphony of lights. blue and silver sparks danced across the heavens, forming intricate patterns and shapes. the crowd gasped in awe, the air buzzing with excitement.

jamil glanced at alaric, who was watching the display with wide-eyed wonder. in that moment, jamil felt a surge of gratitude for this night, for this rare chance to simply be himself. as the final sparks faded and the crowd began to disperse, "thank you for being with me here tonight, jamil." the white haired boy smiled. "you don't need to thank me." jamil said before looking deep into alaric's eyes

"alaric... i don't know how to say this but you make me feel things i've never felt before. i'm sorry." jamil was trying to control his voice, but his heart was almost coming out of his mouth. "i don't know how to explain it because i've never felt something like this before." jamil's attention immediately went to alaric who held his hands in his "jamil. i'm going to be completely honest with you. i feel the same way, when i'm with you it seems like everything around me is moving slowly. i really want to try to have a relationship that not just platonic with you." alaric confessed as his cheeks began to heat up

jamil nodded while a small smile appeared on his face, words wouldn't be able to say what he was feeling. but actions were worth more than a thousand words. they stood there for a moment longer, beneath the light of the blue moon, two souls connected in a world of magic and possibility. and as the festival came to a close, alaric realized one thing, could it be that the blue moon's gift to alaric had been a person like jamil in his life.
