Not a word was uttered as you both walked in silence. Your hand subconsciously travelled to your neck as you scratched it lightly. Upon reaching Shinobu's door, Giyuu took it upon himself to knock on the door and dig you out of your panicked state.
On the other side of the door you could hear a faint sound of panicked footsteps and a fit of coughs.
"Who is there?" Shinobu asked, her voice cracking ever so slightly as she approached the door.
"Kocho." Giyuu called out for her as he placed an ear against the shoji door. "Tomioka, you've caught me in a rather unfortunate situation, please do come back later" She said worryingly from the other side of the door.
You knew exactly what was going on behind that door and the prior shock for the scar like mark you got seemed to dissipate instead replaced with worry for the older girl behind the door. "Shinobu." You tried to call as well, in hopes that she'd open the door.
"[Name], you know I'm not the only medic around. Aoi would be delighted to attend to your injuries, so please don't let me repeat myself." You could almost feel her hard gaze from the other side of the door. You knew she was going to be fine but it still concerned you nonetheless, and as much as you wanted to barge through that door, you knew and respected other people's boundaries.
Yet you didn't move from the front of the door.
Giyuu did notice your reclutance and he also was slightly worried for his co-worker, but she wished for privacy and you both would have to respect that. "Let's go." He quietly said and guided you towards the garden where Aoi was last seen.
Your mind kept wondering back to Shinobu. There had to be another way of doing things, the final battle was always one day closer and yet you weren't planning anything. If you wanted to make a difference, you had to act immediately. There was no time to lose worrying about a simple scar. You'll worry about that later. You have time.
"Tomioka." You stopped the man from walking further. "I'm sorry if I worried you all, I overreacted. It is nothing but a simple scar, I should be used to them. I'm a demon slayer after all." You chuckled nervously and played with the bracelet around your wrist. "A hashira." He corrected you.
"You are a hashira, but that doesn't really matter. Everyone has different reactions to scars. Just look at Shinazugawa and Iguro." He shrugged with nonchalance. "Actually..." You averted your gaze as you scratched your cheek. "I may or may not have decided to resign from my position as a pillar." You explained, in all honesty you thought the less people to know about it the better, but in that moment you felt like correcting him. A Hashira's position has to be earned and you were gonna aim to the top until you felt like you had a place among those nine people.
"Ah." He seemed to have no reaction at all, that's what his face gave away anyway. Who knows what goes on inside his mind.
"Yeah..." The atmosphere turned quite awkward in a matter of seconds as you both stared at each others. "May I know why?" He questioned, his voice holding the same monotone.
