Chapter 17: Bridging the Gap

Akshara 's new work schedule allowed her to focus on her relationship with Rohan. They began to reconnect, finding joy in their daily interactions despite the miles that separated them. One weekend, as Akshara was catching up on some reading at her favourite cafe, her phone buzzed with a message from Rohan.

Rohan: Can we video call in an hour? I have a surprise for you!

Curiosity piqued, Akshara replied with a quick yes. She finished her coffee and headed home, eager to see what Rohan had planned.

When the video call connected, Rohan's face filled the screen, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Hey, beautiful! Ready for your surprise?"

"Absolutely," Akshara replied, her excitement matching his.

Rohan adjusted the camera, revealing a small box wrapped in bright paper. "I wanted to give you this in person, but since we can't be together right now, I'm sending it virtually."

He opened the box to reveal a delicate silver necklace with a pendant in the shape of a heart. Inside the heart was a tiny sapphire, Akshara 's birthstone

"Oh, Rohan, it's beautiful!" Akshara exclaimed, tears of joy welling up in her eyes. "Thank you so much. This means the world to me."

"I wanted you to have something that reminds you of us," Rohan said softly. "I know things have been tough, but I believe in us. This is just a little token of my love."

Akshara 's heart swelled with emotion. "I love you, Rohan. Thank you for being so thoughtful and for always believing in us."

Their call continued late into the night, filled with laughter and shared dreams. For the first time in weeks, Akshara felt a sense of peace and hope.

As the weeks went by, Akshara and Rohan's bond grew stronger. They navigated the challenges of a long-distance relationship with patience and creativity, finding ways to keep their love alive. Rohan sent Akshara handwritten letters and small gifts, while Akshara surprised Rohan with care packages and video messages.

At work, Akshara continued to excel. Her team admired her dedication and leadership, and she found herself becoming a mentor to younger engineers. One of her mentees, Priya, often sought her advice on both professional and personal matters.

"Akshara , how do you manage everything so well?" Priya asked one afternoon as they worked on a project. "You're successful at work, and you seem so happy in your personal life too."

Akshara smiled, thinking of the journey she had been on. "It's all about balance, Priya. It's important to set priorities and make time for the things that matter most. And always remember to take care of yourself, too."

Priya nodded, looking up to Akshara with admiration. "You're such an inspiration, Akshara . I hope I can achieve what you have someday."

Akshara placed a reassuring hand on Priya's shoulder. "You will, Priya. Just keep believing in yourself and working hard. And don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it."

Priya glanced at Akshara thoughtfully. " Ok, leave it.So, Akshara, tell me about Rohan. Is he the type who would move mountains for you? Or maybe even destroy the world?"

Akshara chuckled softly, a fond glint in her eyes. "Oh, absolutely. He's my rock. If I asked him to, he'd probably move heaven and earth for me."

Priya raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "That's deep. What makes you so sure?"

Akshara smiled knowingly. "Because he knows me inside out, Priya. Every quirk, every dream, every fear—I've laid it all bare. And in return, he's shown me his soul too. He understands me like no one else does."

Priya nodded thoughtfully. "Sounds like you two have something special."

"We do," Akshara affirmed with a soft smile. "He's not just my partner, he's my confidant, my supporter, and my best friend. We've been through so much together."

Priya leaned in, a playful glint in her eye. "And would you say you know everything about him too?"

Akshara grinned mischievously. "Oh, absolutely. Every nook and corner, every detail. He can't hide anything from me."

Priya laughed, raising her glass in a toast. "Here's to love that knows no bounds. You two are goals, Akshara."

Meanwhile, Rohan was making strides in his research. His work on sustainable energy solutions was gaining recognition, and he was invited to present at an international conference. Akshara was thrilled for him, proud of his achievements and excited about the opportunities ahead.

One evening, as they were catching up on a video call, Rohan shared his latest news. "Akshara , I've been invited to present my research at a conference in Bangalore! I'll be coming home next month!"

Akshara 's face lit up with joy. "That's amazing, Rohan! I can't wait to see you and hear your presentation. I'm so proud of you!"

The anticipation of Rohan's visit gave Akshara a renewed sense of energy and motivation. She threw herself into her work with even more enthusiasm, eager to achieve new milestones before his arrival.

As the conference approached, Akshara made plans to take a few days off to spend time with Rohan. She meticulously organised her work to ensure everything would run smoothly in her absence.

Finally, the day arrived. Akshara stood at the airport, her heart pounding with excitement. As she scanned the crowd, she spotted Rohan, his smile as bright as ever. She ran towards him, and they embraced tightly, the months of separation melting away in an instant.

"I've missed you so much," Akshara whispered, tears of happiness streaming down her face.

"I've missed you too," Rohan replied, holding her close. "It's so good to be home."

They spent the next few days exploring Bangalore together, visiting their favourite spots and discovering new places. Akshara showed Rohan the progress on her projects, and Rohan shared his insights on sustainable energy.

The highlight of the visit was Rohan's presentation at the conference. Akshara sat in the front row, her heart swelling with pride as he spoke passionately about his research. The audience was captivated, and Rohan received a standing ovation.

After the conference, they celebrated with dinner at a rooftop restaurant, the city lights twinkling around them. As they looked out over the skyline, Rohan took Akshara 's hand.

"This visit has been amazing, Akshara . And it's made me realise how much I want us to be together, not just in spirit, but physically. I want us to start planning our future, to find a way to be in the same place."

Akshara nodded, tears of happiness in her eyes. "I want that too, Rohan. We've been through so much, and I know we can make it work. Let's start planning our future together."

Their visit ended too soon, but Akshara and Rohan were more determined than ever to bridge the gap between them. They began making concrete plans for their future, exploring job opportunities and living arrangements.
