The feary blazing sky expanded like the surface of the sun.
Rarefied air,dry ,scorched earth ,the endless wasteland of lost souls - this was non-existence.The cemetery of immortals.
Disembodied spirits, who had forgotten who they were, eternally wandered this place, losing themselves.
Until one day the sky opened and a woman came down to them.
She walked slowly ,along the path looking around. Her inhumanly perceptive pupils picked out certain forms, the remnants of dead individuals, and she approached them, whispering something in their ears.
Once the soul had begun to dutifully follow her, she approached the next one.
Had they been able to talk, they probably would have asked her questions, but they had neither throats nor vocal cords and could produce no sounds. And they walked, as silent as sleepwalkers, not knowing who they were, what they were, or where they were being led.But some refused, consumed by Nonexistence.
The spirit fluttered. His silhouette momentarily lost its shape as it moved, but it reformed into something resembling a man.Horsewoman: Do you understand, the oblivion will swallow you? Are you prepared for this?
The spirit remained adamant.
Horsewoman: So be it ,dragon.
The former person, now only an echo of a soul, felt something was amiss and didn't offer his hand to the stranger, recoiling, dissolving and shrinking back.
Horsewoman: Do you understand the oblivion will swallow you,are you prepared for this?
The spirit remained adamant.
Horsewoman: so be it .
They didn't want to follow the living. Nonexistence wouldn't let them go.The woman went on without stopping.
And then the sky parted again, and a whirling rift swirled over their heads, sucking in the silent souls.
A rift that would bring them liberation, blood and flesh, but also pain. Was it a gift from the woman or a punishment?
She ran her fingers through my hair. Without fully waking, I caught her fingers and lowered her hand on the pillow.
"Sleep, it's too early." I said.
She slipped out of the blanket , threw a robe on her shoulders and went up to the window.
I was sleeping because it's what I didn't get anywhere. Here for the matters of council, they sometimes summon me too.Like what the hell. I have had enough in the hell. Atleast let me have my moments here, with Vicky and obviously with my sleep.
There was a knock on the door.
Argh!!. Let me sleep.
I groaned into the pillow and threw it towards the sound . I muttered angrily,"neither in hell nor in heaven - they won't let you sleep anywhere."
Vicky said,"I will take care of it. Come in."
Acolyte: lord, madam sorry to disturb you.
Only disturb?? You make me sleep deprived. The hell with it.
I was annoyed and said," disturb is an understatement".
Vicky looked at me fondly, to shut me up obviously.
Ahh this cute face...
Vicky: Did something happen?
Acolyte: Council requests your presence at citadel.
I got out of the bed , looking at him annoyed and said," what is the meaning of this?"
Acolyte: I am afraid something extraordinary has happened. Citadel needs all of its councilors.
I said irritated," I am not a councilor."
Acolyte: yes,but ...
The damned councillors, do they want to do teaparty with me?
