It's now last period and me and Imani are chilling in the lounge area of the school. "Ok so what did he say after" she asks and I smile "he was like um, so can I take you out to dinner like a date" I put in air quotes and she screams "bitch what oh my god" she shakes me and I smile "but I don't like him like that this date is totally platonic, and besides it's only the 2nd week of school" she looks at me disgusted.
"What are you talking about" I shrug "I'm going to college with other guys I'm swearing off of dating this year" I slouch into my seat "no Zuri don't you dare, I swear not every guy is like Dante i promise, just like try it" she tries to convince me "but the thing is I don't like him, yea he is fine as hell but we've become good friends and I don't want that to change" I shake my head "ok fine I understand but I'm telling you don't miss out on something good" she smiles at me.
"are you staying after school with me" she types on her laptop I nod "yea um maybe for a little bit but then I have a meeting with my dad about college" I type on my laptop "ohh yea so about that I know how much you hate this discussion but we need to have it" I roll my eyes knowing what comes next "ok so Ryan and Samir I'm not sure about Owen but they got offers and scouts already and I have a list lemme get it" she digs in her back and pulls out a paper.
She hands it to me and I look at it. Ohio state, university of Alabama, USC, Clemson, university of Michigan, Berkeley, Yale, Iowa state, university of gorgia. I look up at her "all of these are where they have scouts and offers from" she nods smiling "damn I have to ask Owen where he got some from" I pull out my phone and call him "yes" he sounds pissed "what's wrong with you" i hear him sigh "nothing just a little crabby, what do you want" I roll my eyes "um where do you have offers from" he chuckles and I know it's about to be some bs.
"You know the usual" he says satirically "just joking um places like Clemson, university of Alabama, USC, Yale, Iowa state, University of Georgia, auburn, Texas A&M, university of Michigan, Berkeley, Stanford, and Ohio that's about it" I nod in disbelief "don't say that so nonchalantly you listed over 10 schools and then say that's about it" I question him and he laughs "ok I have to go I'm in the middle of class with Ryan and were trying actually work" I hang up the phone and look at Imani.
"Ok what did he say" she looks up from the laptop "all the ones they said plus Stanford and auburn" she nods "ok so really it's our choice as long as they have a good football program" she adds and I smile at her "yea um I'm just going to major in business" I shrug "me too" she shrugs too "but um my dad was talking and my older sister might be taking over our half and I'll just have my own work and business if I want" Imani looks at me shocked "so like we won't work together".
I nod "yea so I would like be just a member until I marry then I can choose to leave or stay" she sighs "man I wish my older brother would do that" I laugh "he probably will I mean he's only in college so maybe after he graduates" I shrug and she nods "ok so now that we discussed that what are we doing for after graduation" she shrugs "OUU you know what we should like all go on a cruise" my eyes widen "or how about we do that and then after we go somewhere else" she looks at me confused "ok so like we go on the cruise then when they drop us back at the port we fly out somewhere else instead of going straight home" she shakes me laughing and I laugh "oh my bitch where are these good ideas coming from".
I shrug "ok so who all is going" she lets go of me "um maybe the friend group we started with minus that bitch Zoe, ouuu i should fuck her up again" she looks with wide eyes "whoa where did that mouth come from" we both laugh typing on our laptops. We sit in silence for about five minutes until I feel a presence of someone so I look up and see Ryan sneaking up. He signals for me not to say anything so I just shake my head and look back down "boo" Imani screams and they laugh. Ryan jumps over the couch sitting beside her.
"Hey babe" she sits closer to him bringing his lips to hers. "Hey Zuri how you doin" he acknowledges me "um you know the usual" he nods "I just saw Owen in he hallway on my way" I shrug "yea I don't know I haven't seen him" just as if we spawned him, he came and sat next to me on couch smiling at me. "Hey you" he grins widely "hello" I smile back at him "yo what's up Ryan, hey Imani" he greets everyone "yo what's up why you not in class" Ryan looks over to us "why you not in class" Owen asks back "because I get to leave early when we have practice and I finish my work" Ryan rolls his eyes "same" Owen mumbled "did Zuri tell you we're going on a date" I roll my eyes "as friends dummy" I argue "doesn't mean it's not a date" he teased.
"I'm betting $5 bucks each that yall will get married" Ryan jokes and we laugh "guess your never getting that 5" I snarl looking back down doing work "what you doing" Owen looks at my screen "pre-calc" he nods "I have that next semester" i nod acknowledging him speaking.
We sat and did our work while the boys talk for about 15 minutes then they had to go to. "Ok um can we get food before we watch them" she nods and we get up and head to the cars.
