"I greet his Majesty the Emperor." You bow. "Please, no need for formalities, we're family after all." The Emperor chuckles from atop his throne. 'Not for long~' You thought with a smile.
"Actually, I came to speak with you regarding that matter." You inform. "Oh? What for? If it's regarding the wedding, I'll bring the Prince here to discuss the details together." He beamed. "That won't be necessary." You shake your head. "Hm? Very well then." He nodded. "I would like to formally request a cancellation of my engagement to the Crown Prince." You elucidate, you catch his smile waver a bit out of the corner of your eye.
"What ever for? Has my nephew upset you in some way?" He asked. "No, not at all." You deny. "I'm afraid of many consequences arising from this marriage." You lie. "Oh? Do indulge me." He leaned back a bit, motioning for you to continue.
"First, this marriage was made while I was at war, by the previous Count and Countess correct?" You look at him to validate. "Indeed." He nodded. "Well, I'm afraid I'm no longer a child of the Hardt couple, as me and my brother have cut ties with them in every way possible. Hence, wouldn't this marriage be void?" You inquire. "Not quite." He replied, making you jolt. "Pardon?" You furrow your brows.
"This marriage arrangement was made while you were still their child, and you do still carry the Hardt name. Unless you wish to relinquish it?" He raised a brow. You sigh. "I see, my mistake." He smiles.
"But that's not the only issue." You state. "Go on." He waved his hand. "I'm afraid as far as the public is concerned, I'm a man." You point at your currently flat chest to prove your point.
"Well, we could always re-introduce you into society, properly this time." He countered. "But would the public be so open-minded to that?" You raise a brow. "As their Crown Princess, they will naturally adore you, no matter the circumstance." He claimed. 'Damn it, this is not going as planned.' You struggle to keep your smile in place.
"Then what if I wish to remain a boy?" You ask. Unexpectedly, the Emperor wasn't fazed by this in the least.
"Then I'll have to legalize same sex marriage." He proclaimed, making you sputter. "Uh-w- what?!" You struggled to find words to say. "If that was all, I do think you should go out and spend time with your fiancee." He said.
"Just one more thing!" You held a finger up. "Hm?" He leans his face against his palm, feeling victorious.
"What about the Crown Princess feelings?"
This makes him pause. "I don't wish to force marriage upon someone who does not wish for it." You nervously rub your neck. "I wouldn't want him to force himself to settle with someone he doesn't like." You further explain. This wasn't a lie, this was something you were genuinely worried about. You would never want to force him like that, or anyone for that matter. Marriage should be an agreement from both parties, or at least that's what your Mother used to say.
"Pfft..." You snap your attention back to the Emperor. "Hahahaha!" He burst into a fit of laughter, leaving you confused, standing awkwardly.
"I see, so that's what this was all about." He chuckled. "Um, did I say something wrong?" You ask worriedly. "No, not at all." He shook his head. "You don't have to worry about that." He wiped a stray tear from the corner of his eye. "After all, he was the one who proposed this marriage to me in the first place." He explained, leaving you to process that for a couple moments.
"WHAT!?" You screeched. "He- me?- w- I" You were at a complete loss for words. "I'm sure he can explain it to you if you ask." He said. "Though I don't think that's necessary." He eyed the closed doors behind you.
"What are you- oh no..." You look behind yourself and stare at the doors. "You're out there aren't you?" You groan.
Slowly, the big doors were opened by none other than the Crown Prince himself. "Your highness-" You were cut off by him grabbing your waist gently and pulling you close. Your mind began to blank, blush making its way up your face.
"Having you as my wife would be an honor! Not a requirement!" He clarified. "Only a fool would have the audacity to think such a way! You're the most beautiful, strong, confident, and admirable woman in the entire empire- no, world!" He declared. "I-uh- beautiful?- wait- what?" You didn't need to look in a mirror to tell how red your face was, you could feel it.
"If you don't wanna marry my brother, you can always marry me instead!" The princess chirped from behind the doors. "Wha- I- me- you" You felt as if your legs could collapse from under you any minute.
"Why don't you two go out and spend some time together, talk things out some more." The Emperor suggested. "Of course!" The Prince agreed happily.
"Uh- woah!" You gasp as you're suddenly lifted up off the ground by the Prince, him holding you princess style. Unable to put up any more of a fight than you already had, you simply hide your face between your hands and accept your fate.
TIMESKIP:
"If I may ask, where are we going?" You and the Prince were now comfortably seated in a luxurious carriage, one that is heading who knows where. "Ah, a boutique my sister frequents." He replied. "Wouldn't that be, like, crazy expensive?" You give him a sideways glance. "Not at all." He chuckled with a shake of his head. "Right." You sighed. 'If only I was that rich....' You silently mope, crossing your arms over your chest.
"Cordelia-" You frown deeply, brows furrowed as you meet eyes with the Prince. "My apologies, Y/n" He rectifies his mistake quickly with a cough. "Yes?" You try not to groan out. "Why did you change your identity?" He asks.
'Invasive much?' You inwardly scoff. "As you may know, women aren't exactly the most... Welcome in the military." You began. "Indeed, but you're not like normal women." He countered. "I'm flattered, but that's not the point. Being a woman in the military has many disadvantages you see." You inform. "Oh? How so?" He inquires. 'I can't tell if he's being a smartass or if he genuinely doesn't know.' You click your tongue and lean back.
"One, being constantly sexualized and hit on by the men, two, being treated as if you're lower than the rest, three, underestimated by absolute idiots, four, worse healthcare, five, and by God this is the worst one" He gulps in nervousness, feeling the pressure from the aura you're emiting.
"Less pay." You finish with a huff.
"Huh?" He tilts his head, caught off guard by your words. "What? Money is all that I was getting out of being in the war, of course I'd want as much as I can get!" You defended. "I wasn't judging, just simply caught off guard is all." With a soft shake of his head, he smiled.
"I'll have to have a word with Uncle about that then, can't have my fiancé facing such hardships on my watch." He chuckled. "You better!" You huff.
