9 Years Later
They're 14 now

"Sister, do you want to go star gazing tonight?" Deon asks. "I'd love to." You smiled, patting his head. Honestly, you're pretty damn proud of yourself. Deon looks mentally healthy when he's supposed to be in his depresso phase! Which means you've been doing a good job as a sister. Thankfully.

"Oh, Deon, want to head to town later today? I need some new clothes, the old ones are getting a little harder to fit into now." You asked. "Of course." He nodded.

A knock came at your door. "Come in." You said. "Deon." Cruel says. "And Cordelia!" You add, doing jazz hands. "Want to play a game of chess?" He asks Deon. 'Oop, brother bonding moment?' You smile.

"No. I'm busy." Deon states coldly. You felt your soul shatter to pieces in that moment, your smile twitching. 'Why.' You bang your head against the wood desk you were sitting at. "Sister!? Are you okay!?" Deon asks worriedly. "I'm fine..." You reassure. "Are you sure?" Cruel asks, just as worried as Deon. "Mhm." You give him a thumbs up, head still laying on the desk.

To your growing annoyance, no matter how hard you tried, you just couldn't get these damned brothers to get along.

"Why not play chess with Cruel? It might be fun?" You try to persuade, head no longer resting. "It'd be better if it were with you though." He states. 'This little-' Your eye twitches. "Deon, just play one round with him." You pat his head. "Please?" You try.

"One game." He scowls at Cruel, making you sigh.

You chuckled as you watched Cruel beat Deon at chess flawlessly. Deon seemed to be concentrating seriously, so much that it looked like he was you, staring at an exam from the modern world. Cruel was smiling peacefully as he played, enjoying the time spent with his siblings. It was a happy moment. A rare moment. The three Hardt siblings bonding all together, it made your heart swell.

Everything seemed so perfect.

But all good things must eventually come to an end.

You all turned your heads to your door that had been slammed open, men dressed in uniform marching in like they owned the place. You felt your heart stop. The men were quick to make Cruel step aside and grab Deon's arm. Your teeth grinded together. Your fists clenched rightly.

"Wait!" Both you and Cruel shouted. "Where are you taking him!?" You shouted. Even though you knew the answer, you still wanted it. But your question went unanswered as more men dressed in uniform came to block you and Cruel from getting to Deon. Seeing this, Cruel retracted his hand and walked back into your bedroom.

'I can't believe this! I know this happened in the original, but.. It's still angering to witness Cruel give up that fast!' You clicked your tongue, you'd have to train that disobedient puppy better, but now wasn't the time for that.

"Sister! Let me go!" You hear Deon scream.

In that moment, something in you snapped. Your instinct to protect overcame all other senses. You rush to Deon's side and try to pry their hands off him. "Let go of him! He's just a kid! HE CAN'T GO TO WAR! I WON'T ALLOW IT!" You scream and shout with fury. 'No! God, please don't do this! Not Deon!' You replayed all of yours and Deon's memories together as you do all that you can to get Deon away from them.

Cruel suddenly grabs you, holding you back as you struggle to get free of his grasp. Seeing them getting further from sight, you bit down Cruel's hand, hard. He lets out a pained shout and you dash at the soldiers. "Cordelia!" Cruel shouts. Some try to block you, but you were quick to dodge their arms and reach the soldiers holding Deon.

"FUCK OFF!" You screamed, kicking one of them in the shin.

The soldier didn't even wince. Even though you broke some skin with the kick, he didn't flinch, not at all. So, you went with another tactic. Biting. You pounced on the soldier, your teeth sinking into his arm. This time, you got a reaction out of him. A shriek. The other soldiers tried to pry you off of him, but you didn't budge. You couldn't. Not when Deon was on the line.

One of the soldiers clicked their tongue in annoyance and stepped up. Since pulling you off wasn't an option, he did something else. He kicked you in the gut. Harsher then you bit Cruel. You sputtered, your grip on the soldier no longer there, the soldier you attacked was quick to toss you off of him.

"Sister!" Deon shrieked, full on sobbing by now.

You tried to get up but a soldiers foot pressed against your back kept you down. You gasped for air, still recuperating from that kick.

Eventually, the soldiers had left with Deon. You cried and cried as you drowned in guilt and defeat. Cruel was kneeling beside you, trying to console you to the best of his abilities.

Then, an idea pops into your head, a stupid one, but an idea nonetheless. You quickly rush to your mother and father's chambers, leaving Cruel confused and on the floor.

When you arrive your parents are surprised and mother rushes to your side in an instant.

"What happened to you!? Are you alright!?" Your mother questioned. Mother's eyes go wide as you speak of your idea to her..

Deon's POV

I was just playing chess with my brother. Then, these men busted into the room. They went straight towards me and dragged me out of the room. My brother attempted to help me, but he gave up so fast... 'Does mother and father want me dead? Does brother hate me as well? Do all of them wish for me to die?'

I cry out to Sister, my kind sister. 'There's no way Sister will abandon me!' I was right.

She rushed towards me, and I stretched my hand out to her. She was so close to saving me, but... Brother held her back, something in me shattered in that moment, I watched as Sister struggled to get to me. She was balling her eyes out, trying to save me. I watched as she bit Brother- no, Cruel's hand. He lets her go and she rushes to get to me.

I watched as she dodged the soldiers, kicked one of the ones holding me, then bit into his arm when kicking didn't work. I cried. 'Sister....' My one and only sister. 'She's really the only one who cares isn't she?'

My eyes widen as I see one soldier kick Sister harshly in the stomach, making her sputter and gasp for air. Then, she was thrown across the floor by the soldier she had bitten. I tried to get to her, but I was held back. Sister tried getting up, but a soldier kept her down, pressing his foot against her back as she gasped for air.

Everything went so silent. Almost as if there was no one there. I couldn't think straight as I replayed the scene in my mind.

The next thing I know, I'm out of the mansion and on my way to the battlefield....
